A message from our Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is with great sadness today that we reflect on the life and death of Queen Elizabeth II, our longest serving monarch. We will be following Government guidance over the next 10 days to ensure we, as a school community, mark the passing of the Queen appropriately. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Queen’s family at this sad time.
I do hope that you and your families have had a restful summer break and that your children are now ready for the rigours of the new academic term. It has been fantastic to welcome back the children and young people of St John Vianney School after the summer break. The children returned to school on Wednesday this week and enthusiastically talked of their summer experiences, the time they spent with their families and their hopes for the next school year. It was lovely to welcome 15 new pupils into school, who have now begun their careers at SJV; they have all made an excellent impression upon us already.
We have asked parents to support us in ensuring pupils were dressed in the correct school uniform and that they were prepared well for each school day. It was really visible on Wednesday morning, when the pupils arrived, that you had supported us in this - thank you. All the children across school have come back to School very positively this week and this bodes really well for the new term. I am confident they have all enjoyed being back in school and into our routines.
We have a few events planned for late September/ early October which we would like you to contribute to. On Friday 30th September we invite you to join us for a coffee afternoon in the school dining hall, in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. From 1.30pm please join us informally for refreshments and to raise funds for a very worthy charity.
The following week we have an Open Afternoon planned for prospective parents to attend. On Wednesday 5th October we invite parents of pupils looking for a school place for next September, into school, to look at our offer. If you know any parents who are looking for school places next year ( eg Year 6 pupils) please do let them know.
The following evening (Thursday 6th October) is our Welcome Evening in School for all parents. This will begin at 4pm and finish at 6pm. It will provide an opportunity for all our parents to come into school and meet with the class team to discuss the start to the school year that your child has had and for us to share our expectations with you. It is a really important opportunity for you to know how to support your child in school this year. Please place these dates in your diaries and I will provide further details to you over the forthcoming weeks.
The weekly newsletter is a fantastic way of keeping up to date about events in School, but also seeing what amazing activities the school provides for its learners. We send it home weekly through our email system and also post it on our Website and Twitter feed, where daily activities are also ‘tweeted’ about. Please look to follow us on Twitter @StJohnVianneySc.
I look forward to meeting you in the forthcoming weeks and should you have any concerns about your child in School please do not hesitate to contact the School office.
Very best wishes to you and your families for the weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mr A Moloney

Our Catholic school
As much as I have enjoyed the holidays and I’ve had a good rest and have been able to rest and recharge, I am so excited to be back! Its so wonderful to be back at SJV again, and to see everyone and hear all the exciting news that has happened to us as a school community over summer. Welcome back to our old returning students and their families, and all those who have joined us for the first time too. For those whose summer has been a challenge we will be there for you, with as much help and support needed as a part of our welcoming faith community.
Within SJV this week our Bible focus is on the qualities that are needed in life and that as a school community we uphold and treasure. We all started the day with this prayer:
Lord Jesus, we ask for Your help as we begin this new school year. Allow us to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before us.
Open our eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings. Open our hearts and minds to new friends and new teachers.
Give each of us a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with our studies and courage to accept new opportunities. Help us to be attentive to our teachers and let us experience Your presence in our new friends. Lord, inspire us to do our very best this year!
Amen.
In RE this week, we have been getting to know each other and all the new classes, focussing on who they are and why they are a child of God. In Key Stages 4 and 5 we have been introducing them to their RE Certificate course (The Salford Diocese Certificate in Religious Education) and looking ahead to their graduation in 2023!
I am looking forward to another amazing year at SJV and I know there are so many lovely times to come.
Enjoy your Weekend!
