TOADN's 34th Annual Convention is back in person in Frisco, Texas! Here is your chance to network, learn from your colleagues, connect with other professionals who “get it” and grow.

TOADN Program - March 3rd

7:00AM: Breakfast, registration, and vendors

8:00am-11:30am: Next Generation NCLEX: Developing Clinical Judgment

  • Prepare for the future while improving students' clinical judgment today. The NCSBN's Next Generation NCLEX initiative will change nursing education profoundly. Discover how teaching strategies that focus on developing clinical judgment are essential to preparing your students for Next Gen NCLEX and Learn strategies you can implement into your curriculum now to prepare your students for licensure success and competent nursing practice. The workshop will be scheduled for 2.5 hours and offers 3 nursing continuing education credits

11:30am-12:45pm: TOADN Business Meeting (Lunch Provided), Lori Moseley, Hill College, Presiding

1:00pm-4:30pm: Test Item Writing to Develop Clinical Judgment

  • Learn how to write test items that develop and evaluate clinical judgment in your students and help them succeed on the NCLEX or other certification exams. Current developments from the NCSBN Next Generation NCLEX project will be presented. The workshop will be scheduled for 2.5 hours and offers 3 nursing continuing education credits.

TOADN Program - March 4th

9:30am-11:30am: Burnout and Compassion Fatigue

  • COVID-19 has forced all health care workers, including nurse educators, to acknowledge and address the stressors we face in both our personal and professional lives. Learn strategies for coping with the pressures of burnout and compassion fatigue based upon the latest research and prepare students to manage burnout in their own careers. The workshop will be scheduled for 2 hours and offers 2 nursing continuing education credits.

All TOADN sessions will be presented by Susan Sportsman, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN. Dr. Sportsman builds upon 40 years of experience as a clinician, educator, and consultant to provide nursing and health professions educators with expert guidance and consultation in the areas of student, faculty, and program performance and leadership development. Dr. Sportsman has worked as a medical-surgical and psychiatric nurse in hospitals and in the community; she has been a teacher and an administrator in both service and education; and she has consulted for a broad spectrum of colleges and universities throughout North America. Most recently she served as Director of Consulting Services at Elsevier’s Education Division. Prior to that she held positions as Dean of the College of Health Science and Human Services at Midwestern State University; Associate Dean of Nursing at Texas Tech University; and Vice President, Mental Health Programs at Harris Methodist Health System.

Dr. Sportsman’s unique mixture of clinical, educational, and business experience has made her a well-respected and sought-after consultant.
