MFPS Newsletter May 2022

As another extremely busy half term draws to a close, we would like to share our fantastic work with you...

Read on to see what your children have been up to this month and what fantastic and exciting learning opportunities they have been a part of.

Once again, I would like to say a massive thank you for all your continued support.

Mrs Trickett - Head of school

Reading

We would like to thank everyone who supported us by posting blue tokens in our local Hemsworth Tesco. We won and have been awarded £1,500 to spend on more books! We now have a very full library and children enjoy using this. Our parents will be invited to come and read with their children and borrow books very soon. We are working on cataloguing all our books so they can be checked out.

A huge thank you to everyone who purchased books from our Scholastic book fair last term. We raised £185 from this which will also be spent on further materials for our library!

We would like to invite our parents to stay and read with their children on these days from 6th June 2022:

- Mondays - EYFS parents/carers

- Wednesdays - KS1 parents/carers

- Thursdays - KS2 parents/carers

Please come and join us!

Attendance

Don't forget - we will be opening at 8.45am daily from Monday 6th June in preparation for Autumn term - pupils should be in school at this time and ready to learn. PE kits will need to brought to change into on PE days.

Due to many various illnesses this term, our attendance figures have fluctuated but we are confident these will rise again to above our target of 97%. Please call school for advice, support or with any questions if your child is ill at home. We still need to remain vigilant in relation to COVID-19 and measures in place. Our target is 97%. I know we can do better from June 2022!

  • Homework: Parents are asked to listen to children read , practise times tables & practise spellings daily. We also set homework via Seesaw (online). If your child requires paper copies, please speak to classteacher at your earliest convenience. We do have devices we can loan out too.
  • Vehicle access to school, please ensure you only enter the car park if you or your child has a blue badge. If you have a pre-existing arrangement with Miss Jones, this is also acceptable.
  • If you walk into the grounds with your child, please stick to the pathways and the crossings as cars are always coming and going into the car park. There is a children's centre on site and cars require access at all times. No pupils should be allowed near staff cars or to walk through the car park at any time.

Thank you for your continued support in all the above, we must continue to work together to ensure our pupils remain safe and come to school ready to learn.

summer Term 1

Please see below for our recent learning. Our main curriculum focus is on History skills this half term...

EYFS

This month has been fun-packed and full of exciting learning opportunities...

PE - we have been focusing on movement fluency in a variety of different ways.

Literacy - we have been learning all about the differences between living in this country and other countries, creating our own books about what life is like in the UK.

Topic - we have been learning about past and present, focusing on the changes that happen over time (including: how humans change from baby to adult, changes in music/dancing/technology/buildings/clothing).

Maths - we have been learning about sharing equally, odd and even numbers, comparing numbers and doubling!

KS1

Class 1

In year one, Mrs Burnett's class have been up to lots of amazing things. Take a look at our pic collages below...

This half term we have been investigating all about The Great Fire of London in our history topic.

We have really enjoyed finding out as much as we can from the different sources and deciding if they are reliable sources of information.

In Science we have planted our own seeds, found out about different types of wild and garden plants and explored the wide variety of trees we have in our environment.

We have been reading a story about a dog called Pig the Pug in literacy and in maths we have been consolidating our learning about money and shape, as well as practising counting in 2's, 5's or 10's.

Over half term it would be great to practice your phonics, tricky words and reading just a little bit every day. Also, you can practice writing your first and second name and numbers to 20.

Class 1/2

Here are some examples of our fantastic learning in class 1/2...

Class 2

We have had another busy half term! The children have worked extremely hard in order to prepare for their SATs exams and have really impressed us with their resilience and determination.

In Literacy we have written, edited, and improved and published our own letters to fairy tale characters from our class text 'Once upon a Time Online'. The focus of our letters was to inform these characters how to stay safe online.

Our History Topic this half term is based upon Rosa Parks and black history. We have loved finding out more about her life and why she fought for equal rights in the past.

In Maths we have revisited lots of topics in preparation for our tests, including telling the time.

In PE we have been focusing on our football skills, in particular passing, dribbling and our attacking and defending skills.

I am really proud of how hard the children have worked so far this year, and I am looking forward to a final term together in Year 2!

LKS2

Class 3

Class 3/4

Class 4

UKS2

Class 5

Class 5/6

his half term, Year 5/6 have been hard at work exploring Ancient Egypt. We started our half term off with an Egyptian workshop that hooked and engaged pupils into our topic. Literacy has also been exploring Egypt further by looking at Howard Carter as a Biography and a balanced argument on whether Egyptian tombs should be excavated for Historical evidence!

Maths, we have looked across a range of maths concepts including revising place value, and the 4 operations along with fractions, decimals and percentages. We have encompassed this into real life contexts as much as possible to give maths a real purpose.

In RE, we have looked at society and the 6 different religious festivals that build society and community cohesion. In PD and RSHE we have looked at health and wellbeing. We have learnt how to keep ourselves healthy including different types of bacteria and virus and how this affects our bodies including taking medicines responsibly under supervision of an adult.

Year 6 have completed their SATS in which their attitude and resilience was phenomenal – a huge well done!

Year 5 have continued their swimming sessions in which they have thoroughly enjoyed.

Class 6

Another month of fantastic learning opportunities in Y6!
