International Yoga Day Celebrating Health and Peace

The 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be celebrated on 21st June 2022. The worldwide acceptance of Yoga is a matter of pride for our country, as Yoga is an integral part of our cultural and spiritual heritage. As the upcoming 8th IDY is falling in the year of Azadi Ka Amri Mahotsav, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India proposes to observe IDY at Iconic Sites across the country for India Branding.

MMPS Celebrated International Yoga Month and involved students, staff and management of the school in various activities

1. YOGA LOGO MAKING

"Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."

To add years to life, it is important to build up our immunity and best transformation. In the pursuit of the same, on 8th International Yoga Day, the students of classes VI to IX participated in logo making activity in the school premises on Wednesday, 18 May 2022.

The initiative was taken to make our body fit and fine, logo making activity named as SAHYOG was made by all students with great interest. The Students performed various yoga postures and asans. Teachers accompanied students and also performed all the asans and also realised the benefits of the postures which were narrated by the Yoga teacher and took interest towards the importance of meditation and pranayama, in day to day life to keeps one mentally, physically, psychologically healthy.

The celebration concluded with some logo making activities, breathing techniques and exercises like Pranayams, Anuloma and Viloma, Meditation and Relaxation with Laughter yoga. The students were encouraged to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration as they showcased a very energetic and spirited performance!

2. AWARENESS AND BENEFITS OF YOGA

“True yoga is not about the shape of your body, but the shape of your life.”

To stay strong in order to face the tough times, it is even more important to build up our immunity, within the four walls of our house. In the pursuit of the same, on 8th International Yoga Day, the students of classes VI to IX participated in Awareness and benefits of Yoga session in the school premises on Friday, 20 May 2022.

The awareness and benefits were discussed among students. The benefits of the postures were narrated by the Yoga teacher and the importance of meditation and pranayama, in day to day life to keep one mentally, physically, psychologically healthy was highlighted.

The session concluded with some breathing techniques and exercises like Pranayams, Anuloma and Viloma, Meditation and Relaxation with Laughter yoga. The students were encouraged to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration as they showcased a very energetic and spirited performance! The spirit of the whole session filled the children with happiness and joy.

3. YOGA AND MEDITATION SESSIONS

“The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body.”

The increased global interest in yoga in recent decades is primarily due to the expectancy that yoga can calm the mind and increase overall health and well-being and stay fit and fine , the initiative was taken for children’s mental health and well-being include developing healthy relationships with peers and teachers, and being able to self-regulate emotionally, mentally, and behaviourally for the students. The Students of Class VI-IX participated in the session on Yoga and meditation which was organised on Thursday,23rd May 2022.

As Yoga is an ancient Indian practice, which has been spread all over the world, and is even being revitalized in India itself and it consists of certain postures (asanas), regulated breathing techniques (pranayamas), hand poses (mudras), and meditation. All the students along with teachers, parents, school management, staff members and community participated in the session. There was experiential knowledge on which poses were appropriate for different bodily functions. Yoga’s positive impact on the physical and mental health of individuals and their well-being has been established truth. Everyone realised the importance and benefits of Yoga and performed it enthusiastically.

4. VISIT TO ORPHANAGE

“ Yoga has the power to reconstruct a person completely”

In order to create empathy and love for the orphans, The Students of Class-VI-IX participated in Yoga activity with orphan children under the leadership of facilitators on Thursday, 26 May 2022. The visit was made to the school by orphan children and teachers to meet school students. This visit provided a good experience of sense of gratitude towards students. During this visit the students donated food, clothes and things of daily need.

The Students performed various yoga postures and asans. The children accompanied with teachers and they also performed all the asans. The objective of this activity was to make our students aware about social issues like taking care of old people, orphan kids and to understand problems of old age people. In order to help them come out from the emotional trauma our students performed some cultural activities. Students realised the social issue related to old people and orphan kids. Students assured to take care of their parents and old people in their families. They have promised not to send their parents to orphan house when they get old.

Thus the visit filled Empathy and sympathy among all the children.

5 RHYTHMIC YOGA

“Yoga is like a music: the rhythm of the body, the melody of mind and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.”

To make Yoga more rhythmic and musical, the students of Classes VI-IX Participated in rhythmic yoga activity on Saturday, 28th May,2022. Students performed in tunes of the music and whirled delightfully.

This form of yoga involved practising asans with music. The movements of Students become synchronised with the music to become a fluid-like dance. Not only does this became a fun way to practise yoga, but it was also a source of entertainment as music has been proven to relax a person’s mind and enlighten our senses. By pairing yoga and dance, Students burnt more calories and it acted as a gateway between the two art forms. It also offered all the same benefits as “normal” yoga, i.e. stress relief, improved flexibility and open-mindedness.

Thus the children participated exuberantly, and shown keen interest towards it and the session filled them with bundles of joy and happiness in the tunes of music.

6. TALK ON YOGA ACTIVITY

“Yoga doesn’t change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees”

To stay strongest to face the tough times it is even more important to build up our immunity and best transformation. In the pursuit of the same, on 8th International Yoga Day, the students of classes VI to IX participated in Talk on Yoga in the school premises on Thursday, 02 June 2022.

The day was celebrated by the students with great enthusiasm and vigour. The students were discussed and guided by yoga teacher about various asanas followed by Surya Namaskar, Omkar chanting ,Warm up exercises, Sitting and Standing Asanas along with Pyramid Making Yoga postures and they also learnt the making of Yoga logo followed by Rhythmic Yoga. The benefits of the postures and the importance of meditation and pranayama, in day to day life to keep one mentally, physically, psychologically healthy was highlighted.

7. SEMINAR ON IMPORTANCE OF YOGA

“Yoga adds years to your life, and life to your years”

To add years to life, it is important to build up our immunity and best transformation. In the pursuit of the same, on 8th International Yoga Day, the students of classes VI to IX participated Seminar in the Virtual platform on Tuesday, 07 June 2022.

The seminar was conducted with great enthusiasm. The students were guided by facilitators about various asanas followed by Surya Namaskar, Omkar chanting ,Warm up exercises, Sitting and Standing Asanas along with Pyramid Making Yoga postures and they also learnt the making of Yoga logo followed by Rhythmic Yoga. Students realised the benefits of the postures. The importance of Yoga and pranayama, in day to day life to keep one mentally, physically, psychologically healthy was initiated.

The session concluded with some breathing techniques and exercises, Meditation and Relaxation. The students were encouraged to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration as they showcased a very energetic performance! The spirit of the whole session filled the children with happiness.

8. MASS SURYA NAMASKAR

“The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body.”

To shine like a sun and to be healthy and wise, The initiative, was taken to make the practice of Yoga in regular basis, the Students of Classes VI-IX Participated in Mass Surya Namaskar event at Virtual platform on Saturday,11th June,22 .

This occasion commemorates thanksgiving to 'Mother Nature' for bestowing health, wealth and happiness. The Surya Namaskar is a set of 8 Asanas performed in 12 steps with coordination of the body and mind.

It is preferably performed in the early morning and it was offered as a salutation to the Sun to exhibit one’s gratitude for each of its rays as it nurtures all living beings.

The Students realised as the Surya Namaskar has been known to develop immunity and improve vitality, which is significant to our health during pandemic conditions

Exposure to the Sun further provides the human body with Vitamin D, which has been widely recommended in all medical branches around the world.

Further, the event underlined the importance of Surya Namaskar in our life. The Students actively participated in the event and showed their keen dedication towards it.
