St John Vianney Newsletter 05.05.23

A message from our Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a good week and you and your families are well?

The shorter week in school has flown by very quickly and once again it has been pleasing to see the children engaged in their learning activities on site and the enrichment activities they undertake when they are involved in wider learning, outside of School. I do believe that the enrichment activities we are able to offer our pupils make us really unique. We hope that this provision will give every SJV child some amazing and positive memories of School, for when they are older.

Post 16 students have had their annual residential this week at PGL in Winmarleigh, Preston. It has been lovely to hear how well they engaged with the team building and outdoor education activities that they were presented with. Mr Kanakides and the staff team were really proud of the resilience and independence that our students showed when faced with the challenges they were set in a new environment. Well done to all the students who attended and thank you to the staff who kindly gave up their time this week to ensure the residential was a success.

We have another short week next week with the second May bank holiday on Monday to celebrate the King’s coronation. I do hope whatever you’re doing over the weekend you have an enjoyable and restful time with your families.

Mrs Griffin, our Family Liaison Officer is starting to plan our summer fair, which will take place on Saturday, 1st July from 1pm to 3pm. Please place the date in your diary and make every effort to attend and support the school. It will be a fantastic opportunity to bring our school community together to undertake some fundraising for CAFOD, before the end of the school year. It will also be a time for us to mark the transition between the current St John Vianney School with the start of work on the new build, that will take place in the summer. Please keep up-to-date with all information about the summer fair by reading the newsletter we send home every week. If you can help in anyway please let Mrs Griffin know.

We are now also beginning to start work on compiling the annual summer report, which we hope to send out to you in early July. This report provides key information on the progress made by your child since the start of the academic year and takes a significant amount of coordination and collation to get right. Again, we will keep you informed of our progress with the reports. If you have any concerns in the meantime please do make contact with the class team.

Very best wishes for the weekend.

Best wishes,

Mr A Moloney

What I have done this week.

We have been doing decimals in Maths, I found it a bit tricky! I have also been planning to write a biography about Lionel Messi.

What is the best thing about being in SJV?

All the trips we get to go on!

It would be even better if…

We had an Astro pitch in the play area to play football on.

Hopes and dreams for the future:

I would like to work in sports when I'm older.

Our Catholic School

I hope you enjoyed the long Bank holiday weekend and I don't know how it is May already? This year is really flying by.

We are reminded in the Gospel this week of our roles in leading others in Jesus’ path. We are asked to be the ‘Good Shepherd’ to those we have influence with, both at home and school.

Pope Francis reminds us,

'Be passionate in teaching your children to know and follow Jesus’

Our whole school focus in SJV during the month of May is Our Lady; we honour the Virgin Mary as "the Queen of May". The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the fifth of the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. We have continued to look at vocations and the influence of Mary and the importance of saying and doing the Rosary.

Within our Catholic school this week, the chaplaincy team have been supporting the school with celebrating May as the month of Mary. We have been saying the Rosary, making items for Mary for our prayer tables and encouraging our community to reflect on the life of Our Lady, by praying more 'Hail Marys'.

Within Religious Education this week we have been looking at community and British Values - looking at what it means to be ‘British’ in a modern society, which is very fitting with the upcoming King's coronation this weekend.

Mrs Garfin

Enjoy your Weekend!
