DR. YANG JIAO named director of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Welcome to Dr. Yang Jiao, MPS Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Dr. Yang Jiao (Joy) has been selected to fill the open position of MPS Director of DEI beginning with the 2023-24 school year.

Before coming to Midland, Dr. Jiao taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for 6 years, covering a wide range of interdisciplinary classes in media, news, and popular culture. She also worked for the United Nations as an international communication specialist for their Peace Keeping Operations.

Since becoming a resident of Midland in 2019, she has devoted her expertise to a variety of DEI efforts, including serving on the committees of the Midland Cultural Awareness Coalition, Midland Community Investment Grants Committee, and the International Women’s Club. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Midland Center for the Arts. In 2022, Dr. Jiao became a faculty member of Northwood University International Programs.

Dr. Jiao and her husband Dr. Hanze Ying have two children who will attend Midland Public Schools. Dr. Jiao looks forward to starting her new position and would like to share this message with the MPS community:
