OMAR AFIF & GNAWA TRANCE FUSION

Fronted by Moroccan musician Omar Afif, Gnawa Trance Fusion play a roots fusion of Gnawa blues, psychedelic jazz and afrobeat. Baladinda (wooden xylophone), endongo (thumb piano), saxophone, krakeb (metal castanets), guitar, drumkit, and the gnawa bass-lute (guembri) unify to create this entrancing world music sound. Compelling instrumental and vocal phrases join with a dynamic rhythmic experience and development on the Gnawa repertoire draws on jazz, afrofunk, reggae and blues. Gnawa music is a well-preserved heritage of ritual Sufi poetry with traditional music and dance, becoming increasingly known to international audiences. Traditionally performed in Morocco at 'Lilas', entire communal nights of spirituality and healing which are guided by a master musician, audience members can enter trance states. Gnawa Trance Fusion’s wonderfully addictive rhythms, melodies and chants create a unanimity of heart, mind and soul and an irrestistible celebration of existence, at a time when we never needed it more! Omar Afif and Gnawa Trance Fusion bring a unique cultural experience to the contemporary and roots music scene.
