In 1995 Westerlo Baptist Church began exploring the possibility of planting a church in Southeast Albany County. On January 19, 1997 King's Chapel had its first public service meeting at the Reformed Church on Glenmont Rd.
Desiring a location of our own, our first building project began in an avialble rental space in Glenmont Plaza.
It soon became apparent that the rent alone on such a facility was almost enough to cover a mortgage on a modest building. A local landowener had been holding a piece of property with the expressed desire it be used for a church. Upon hearing that King's Chapel was seeking land he offered us a great deal, the property was purchased and we were on our way to our second building project.
In 2000 King's Chapel was able to move its meeting place across the street from the Glenmont Plaza location. At the time 50 people called King's Chapel home, but by the end of 2001 that number increased to over 75. Over the next 4 we would continue to experience steady growth and room would need to be made.
In 2006 it was evident that we were beginning to out grow our existing space. Our third building project was taking down 3 class rooms in the entry of the church in order make space for families to fellowship together before and following corporate worship services.
However taking down walls could only supply so much room. As a result, in 2010 our fourth building project began. 3 classrooms were added off of the existing fellowship hall. These are used today for Children's Church classrooms, youth group space, as well as a library featuring hundreds of books and media resources.
In 2012 as more families were being added to the church even more space was needed in our foyer. This marked the fifth building project that we undertook. In order to gain more space the previous nursery was absorbed into the foyer, and the nursery moved across from our restrooms.
In 2015 we saw the need again to make room for our growing church family.
In the fall of 2016 we moved to a 2 service format to accomodate our growing numbers.
2017 marked a year of brainstorming and preparing for a major building expansion. The expansion would include a 40ft increase to our Gathering Space as well adding classrooms and office space on the backside of the church.
2018 we began our sixth building project and our largest project since our current building was erected. Our hope is not for only increased space, but more importantly increased opportunity for the gospel to heard. We hope to have this project finished by Spring of 2022.
