Term 1b, week 5

This week, we had a visit from Amaradaya. He is a Buddhist and he told us all about the religion her follows.

We learned about Buddha and the precepts Buddhists follow.

On Tuesday, we visited the Great North Museum.

We had a look around the exhibitions and we enjoyed interacting with them.

We had to save some of the class from being eaten by a shark before we went to watch the performance of Tutankhamun’s Shoes- the opera!

At Science Club, Oscar was rocking the safety glasses and lab coat ready for our Chemistry session.

We experimented with reversible and irreversible changes this week.

We used a magnet, sieve and filter paper to see if we could separate our mixtures again.

We then melted chocolate using a Bunsen burner.

We learned that melting chocolate is a reversible change as, when it cools, it solidifies again.

Cooking bread to make toast is an irreversible change as once it is toast, we can’t get the bread back!

Finally, we looked at chemical reactions.

Continuing our work on the local area, we went for a wander around to investigate the amount of litter and graffiti we could see.

We were shocked at the lack of pride that some people have for where they live!

We need to do something about this so are now developing some ideas of what we can do,

.

In Science, we investigated friction and created marble runs.

Each time we sent the marble down the run, we timed it and then had to change our designs to slow the marble down by creating more friction.

Finally this week, we have a visit from a rapper and actor named Kema.

He came in to share with us his experiences of racism

We had to participate by acting out a scene where one person was left out of a group because of the country she came.

We had to develop the scene so that everyone was friends in the end.

Before Kema left, he performed a rap for us.
