Student Council
On the 9th Feb Student Council hosted their first ever fundraiser for the school. In total we raised £140 and we’ve still not sold all the goods! This is something we’re extremely proud of and lots of positive feedback was received from teachers and students alike. Here are some of the things students have to say about their experience:
Tuck shop vendors
We found the day incredibly rewarding and exciting. Designing posters, advertising around school and organising the products to sell required teamwork and good coordination which have taught us some invaluable skills
Valentine’s project
Spending many hours looming bracelets, plaiting charms, ordering and organising items was a joy to do and being part of something that helps the school is great. It was really fun!
We found it incredibly rewarding and the experience we gained from doing this taught us invaluable skills that will help us later in life
Bake sale
Doing the bake sale was extremely fun despite the craziness and sticky situation i.e. making the cakes. If we were to go back we would do it all again in a flash!
A pleasant surprise was receiving a letter from our local MP to congratulate TMBS' Student Council on their fundraising efforts. How amazing!
COMIC RELIEF
Yet again, TMBS students have been their amazing selves when it comes to raising money for charity.
Thank you for all the support parents and carers offer in these events, getting ingredients, dropping off and picking up, it is much appreciated.
The day began with the third year of Red Nose Chocolate Bingo with the winners being…
Well done to all of those and thank you to all who purchased tickets and took part.
Year 9 did not disappoint taking the reins and organising their stalls for the afternoon and to top it off the sun was shining, literally until the bell went and buses had left for the day, when the heavens opened as Mrs Donlan, Mrs Tocker and Mr Modha were busy counting up the money, luckily inside.
Finally, it is important to share that TMBS students current and past are amazing beyond doubt and so we will finish with this bit of information…
University Outreach Visit
Miss Hooton recently took the Year 8 students to DeMontfort University for a university outreach day. Students had a guided tour of the campus and had the chance to build on their budgeting/life skills, an opportunity to tour the library, as well as design and create their own dream university! Year 9, 10 and 7 students will also be going to DMU in the coming weeks for similar outreach days.
Update from the Maths department
Pi Day
A day to celebrate Pi, a special number in the maths world. Each year group took part in Pi themed activities throughout the day. We also had an Ins-Pi-Rational Artwork Challenge, where students could create anything they liked to do with Pi. Check out some of the creations from our students!
A special mention must go to the Whole School Champion, for the second year in a row, Maisie Brian! The maths department were blown away by the Pi symbol decoration that had flashing lights and played the Pi Song! Well done!
Tutor groups were also invited to take part in the Pi Day Tutor Challenge! Each group had 3 minutes and 14 seconds to come up with as many words as possible starting with the letters Pi.

TMBS Maths Primary School Network
Over the last month we’ve welcomed over 40 Year 6 students into our maths department at TMBS. These sessions have allowed students to engage in secondary school maths whilst also meeting students from other schools. We’ve been lost on treasure islands and jumped around with frogs, who knew there was so much maths involved in that?
If you’d like to have a go at our frogs challenge, then click on this link: https://nrich.maths.org/1246
We also have been working closely with our feeder primary schools, and went to visit Witherley C of E Primary School. It was great to see how maths lessons ran from reception up to Year 6. Mrs Blythe from St Peter’s Primary School visited our Year 7 lessons on Order of Operations and her past students were very excited by her visit!
Grand Masters of Numeracy Ninjas!
These students have achieved 30 out of 30 for 5 weeks in a row, a fantastic achievement. Well done to all of our Grand Masters!
IT'S ALL GO IN THE LIBRARY!
World Book Day made its way into TMBS with our 'Don't Judge a Book By Its Cover' sale where students purchased mystery, wrapped up books for £2 for a surprising read, with all money raised going back into the Library. Hopefully all enjoyed their read!
Books lined our hallways too with our Decorate your Door inter-form competition! Tutors 'dressed up' their door, drawing inspiration from one book, and made the corridors a tremendously booky place for the week. Here are our three winners each winning a hamper full of lots of book goodies. You can find pictures of all the other doors on the school website under the Galleries tab.
It was also authors galore this week as we had both Matt Gantry, a budding author who has just released his first book 'The Gamer' coming in to run a creative writing session with some of our Year 10s, as well as Bali Rai, an amazingly talented Leicestershire author who thoroughly engaged and inspired our Year 8s and 9s about the benefits of reading for pleasure!
Staff Book Club kicked off with a classic read of The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Although not a total crowd pleaser amongst the group, it definitely pushed us out of our reading comfort zones and was great fun to dig into. Next up for us will be The One by John Marrs.
Eliza's Running Joy
On Saturday 25th March I ran in the National Year 7 Cross Country Finals. I placed 104th. The energy in the place was amazing. Loud voices everywhere, excitement on young and old faces. I ran for Leicestershire and our team top was black with gold lettering. It's covered in mud now!
At the start line me and my friend were marching on the spot to keep our shoes out of the sticky mud. We waited on the start line, nervous, excited, adrenaline pumping through us! When the gun went, everyone ran, grinning at the camera, listening to their family cheer.
It was a tricky race but definitely worth it. I would encourage anyone that gets that chance to take the opportunity. Eliza
