Training of Trainers HIV Pre-expsoure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

PrEP Training of Trainers

In fulfilling its mandate to build capacity for National AIDS Programme (NAP) Managers and representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs), the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) collaborated with Jamaica AIDS Support for Life (JASL) to conduct a training of trainers in PrEP for HIV.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) of HIV infection as the use of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs by people who do not have HIV infection to prevent the acquisition of HIV and recommends that people of substantial risk should be offered PrEP.

PrEP is considered a key prevention modality and should be an additional prevention choice in a comprehensive package of services that also includes HIV testing, screening and management of sexually transmitted infections, counseling, male and female condoms, lubricants, ARV treatment for partners with HIV infection, voluntary medical male circumcision and harm reduction interventions for people who use drugs.

This initiative was funded by PANCAP USAID Project through the Caribbean Regional PEPFAR Programme based in Jamaica. The training was held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on the 16-18 August 2022.

This was a great workshop. I plan to take your model and use it to develop my country's model for prep roll out

PANCAP PrEP Knowledge Suite

PANCAP in collaboration with PAHO and other partners developed a PrEP knowledge suite with information for different audiences. The knowledge suite contains:

  • social media cards with messages to increase awareness and knowledge and create demand for PrEP among the key populations.
  • technical documents such as generic Caribbean PrEP guidelines, client intake and follow-up forms, PreP register and other programmatic documents that can be adapted for national use.
  • recordings of trainings, webinars, and other educational events on PrEP.

Acknowledgement
