Jingi Walla - Welcome!

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Arakwal people of the Bundjalung nation. We are grateful for the winding creek - Balun - and the Bangalow Palm trees, that are not just pretty but also a source of food, water and materials for the Arakwal people. We are thankful we can learn whilst we play on this land. We respect and love our Jugan - land. We treat all elders with jarima (pronounced Garima) - respect. We will take action to protect, unite and connect with Country.

Far North Coast Dance Festival

What a week! I had the privilege of attending the Far North Coast Dance Festival on Tuesday evening to watch our three talented dance groups perform. All three groups performed beautifully, keeping the audience entertained. Well done to our wonderful dancers, and thank you to Mrs Cross and Mrs Sharp for all of their hard work throughout this year with our dance groups. They choreographed the dances and rehearsed diligently to ensure that our students put on a good show!

School Musical

Yesterday our students performed our school musical, #Shrek, with such talent and enthusiasm. It was such a pleasure to see them all work together to ensure that our performance was fabulous! Again, I must thank my staff for everything they did to ensure that we were able to put on the musical this year, allowing our students the opportunity to take part in this memorable event. Their dedication to our children is evident. Particular thanks must go to Ms Jenevieve who created and oversaw every aspect of the musical, as well as the staff involved in assisting with the production as part of the musical committee, Ms Burns, Nat, Mauzie, Sarah and Mark for going above and beyond. Also my wonderful office staff, Juliette, Andrea and Joelle, who helped out with the many aspects of administration involved.

Much gratitude to all of the parents who assisted along the way with painting, creating costumes, face painting, arranging food packs, photography, and all of the other ways that you helped. Without you, the musical would not have been possible.

And a very special thank you to all of you, parents, families, friends and community, for coming along to support our students and staff at either the matinee or evening performance (or both in some cases). The children were thrilled to be able to showcase their talents twice, to so many audience members. From my perspective, it was a pleasure to finally be able to have the community back together to celebrate our great school community.

Billycart Derby

On Monday our Stage 3 students competed in our Billycart challenge, to see which three would get the honour of representing our school in the Schools Challenge race on Sunday at the Bangalow Billycart Derby. Congratulations to Jake, Ben and Oscar, who were chosen to race on Sunday. If you’d like to see the NBN News clip, click HERE.

Remember to continue supporting our P&C fundraising efforts at the Bangalow Billycart Derby and the school Pit Stop. This will be the first Billycart Derby that I get to attend, and I can’t wait to see the community come together for the first big event in many years. Many thanks must go to my P&C, particularly our P&C President David Chang, for ensuring that our Pit Stop is going ahead, despite the challenges associated with not being able to use the school oval this year. The team working on the Pit Stop have been at it for months, working tirelessly to ensure that they are able to fundraise as much as possible on the day to contribute towards our new school playground. Please be sure to support them on the day.

National Day of Mourning Public Holiday

Finally, as the term winds down, a reminder that next Thursday 22nd September, has been declared a National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II. Our school will be non-operational and closed as a result. Please enjoy the day with your families. Hopefully the sun is shining and it’s a little warmer.

Have a wonderful week.

Carol

Last Friday our Junior and Senior finalists joined students from across NSW via Zoom to compete in the regional finals for the Premier's Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Charlie in the Junior division for making it through to Round 4 and to Julian in the Senior division for making it through to Round 3.

far north coast dance festival

On Tuesday, 52 of our students from Years 3-6 showcased their talents, hard work and energy at the Far North Coast Dance Festival at Twin Towns. Our Stage 2 Girls, Stage 3 Girls and 3-6 Boys dance groups did a phenomenal job, representing our school on stage. Their enormous smiles, energy and hard work with choreography in jazz and hip hop was a wonderful sight to see. Thank you to all the parents who came to support the students and for those who assisted with transport home. A huge thank you and acknowledgement to Mrs Sharp and Mrs Cross for all the work that goes into running and choreographing the dance groups each week, and the huge 13 hour day so students at BPS could participate in this special opportunity. Thank you also to Ms Melville for coming along to assist with supervision in the evening.

We look forward to sharing our dances with parents in Term 4 at some stage if they were unable to attend and we look forward to another fabulous year of dance at BPS in 2023.

enrolments

Kindergarten enrolments are well under way for next year. Kindy Orientation will commence early in Term 4. Please remember that in order for students to attend Kindy O, they must be enrolled (due to Duty of Care regulations). We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new Kindergarten students into our wonderful community.

If you have a child and are yet to enrol in Kindy for next year, please contact the school via phone or email to begin your Kindergarten enrolment process, or you can ENROL ONLINE. Similarly, if you know of any local families who may be looking to enrol, please encourage them to do so. In this way we can inform them of information sessions and transition dates.

As the year quickly draws near to end, we ask you to please inform the school as soon as possible if you know that your child will not be at Bangalow PS next year. We rely on accurate enrolment information to form the basis of our staffing and class organisation. We appreciate your help in this matter.

SCENT SENSITIVITY

Some of our students have been wearing strong deodorant and perfume products to school. While we support our students taking pride in their personal hygiene, some of our students and staff are particularly sensitive to these scents, which can trigger allergic reactions and migraine. We would greatly appreciate it if students could refrain from using excessive amounts of product or strong scents. We thank you for your support and understanding in this regard.

school visitor check-in

Every visitor to our school site needs to check in at the school office - this is NSW Department of Education policy.  This used to be in the form of a paper sign-on book, however all schools have now moved to a digital sign-in procedure, using a QR code.

Many parents and carers are familiar with the process of using their phone to scan our school’s QR code and sign-in as a visitor but what happens if you forget your phone? We’ve got you covered. Our new School Visitor Check-in concierge iPad device and app is designed to help you check-in and check-out in mere moments! You can continue to check-in with your phone, but if you need an alternative, please use the concierge device at front reception.

Sending an absence notification to school?

please don't just write "sick"!

When your child is absent from school, please advise us of the reason as soon as possible. You can do this with a simple phone call to the office, or by completing an Absentee Form in the School Stream app. If you are reporting the absence electronically, or responding to our automated SMS (which is sent out at 11am each day to parents of students who are absent without an explanation), please be sure to leave a detailed reason. If your child is unwell, please provide some further information so we don' t have to follow up with another phone call (e.g. "cold/flu", "headache", "tummy bug", etc).
