COALS PRESS ENG

Coals is a young duo of Kacha and Lucassi. Media describe their music as dream pop, trap, chillwave, cloud rap or R&B, but it's difficult to clearly define their sound, as the band's goal is to create eclectic songs. Artists themselves call their creations "cold pop” and also take control of their visual aspects, directing and producing own music videos and photo shoots.

The band is known for their interdisciplinary concerts, as they pay close attention to performative elements and visual side of their shows: stage design, lighting and costumes. Group performed at numerous international festivals, including Primavera Sound, Iceland Airwaves, Positivus or Pohoda Festival, as well as the largest Polish festivals such as Open'er, OFF and FEST Festival. They also recorded a video session in Reykjavik for the legendary KEXP radio at Kex Hostel.

Their diverse discography constantly attracts new audiences and further recognition:

In 2017 warmly received debut Tamagotchi was released - a concept album influenced by hauntology. After that duo released the dreamlike, near-trap and experimental EP Klan (2019), written exclusively in Polish language.

In 2020, the duo released their second full-length album docusoap under the PIAS label and it contains references to alternative R&B, ambient and ASMR. Musicians experimented with vocal processing on this album, giving their songs a hypnotic atmosphere. The only feature on the album was British producer felicita, who is known for their work with the PC Music label.

In 2021, Coals released three singles and a Rewal EP. The EP is a collection of six dreamy songs that transport the listener to tropical, somewhat unsettling and mysterious holidays. The cover of the EP was designed by Rafał Dominik, a visual artist from Warsaw known for his grotesque, surreal 3D images.

On March 22, 2024, their full-length, Polish-language album "Sanatorium" was released by PIAS Recordings. At this point, the duo has served us with three singles. The somewhat shoegaze-infused "dzwony" takes the listener on a sentimental journey into the depths of dark memories from school years. "nowy świat" is a rather energetic, break-oriented song with elements of bedroom pop, accompanied by a wintry music video directed by Mac Adamczak. "Plaza" transports us to an abandoned shopping gallery from the early 2000s, full of strange nooks and crannies, where the echo of R&B resonates...
