Llansannor & Llanharry C/W Primary School

January 14th 2022

The return to school has been much kinder than we anticipated and we feel blessed that are able to open to all pupils in the 'normal' way.

We do anticipate that we will experience some disruption throughout the next few weeks, so please bear with us while we navigate the uncertain times.

Online learning has already been planned, so that there will be minimum disruption to your child's learning, should there be class closures. Staff have prepared a series of lessons that can be shared quickly with families. We will only switch to online learning in extreme cases of staff shortages and after all other avenues of teaching have been exhausted, such as supply cover. We do ask that you ensure your child is able to access the online platform set by the teacher, SeeSaw for Foundation Phase and Google Classroom in Key Stage 2. Please contact the school if you need help with this. Homework is currently being set on these platforms and so your child should be regularly using them.

Love and Prayers,

Mrs Davies

COVID-19. Updated LFD testing.

Please continue to remain vigilant for COVID symptoms and keep up to date with the most recent Welsh Government Guidelines.

You should remain vigilant for new symptoms, and try to avoid contact with vulnerable family and friends in the short-term (e.g. elderly relatives or those who are higher risk of severe COVID-19 infection).

Please DO NOT send your child to school if they have any COVID symptoms;

a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)

a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

If your child has any of these symptoms then they must be kept at home and take a PCR test.

Children under 5 are no longer required to have a PCR test unless requested by the GP. We ask that you keep your child home until symptoms subside.

Please also be vigilant for the wider symptoms of COVID. These are: fatigue, myalgia, sore throat, headache, sneezing, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

If your child experiences any of these symptoms, we strongly recommend that they undertake a PCR test.

Please note that if your child is under the age of 5 years old they should not take COVID-19 tests unless directed to do so by a doctor or if you believe a test is absolutely necessary and in the best interests of your child. They should however remain off school if they have a high temperature until it returns to normal and they feel better.

If any member of your household has tested positive for COVID-19, we also recommend that children 5 and over should take a daily lateral flow test every day for seven days. This should start on the day a member of your household is confirmed positive from a lateral flow or PCR test result.

Face coverings will now be required while on school site and WILL be statutory while on school site. Please ensure that you are wearing a face covering if you are on the yard, or if you are exiting your car to help with a child into their seat. Parents are asked to make an appointment if they need to speak to a teacher face to face. The most effective way of communicating with staff is to send an email to LlansannorPS@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk where messages can be passed on to the relevant person.

School staff are now strongly advised to wear a face covering while inside the school building in communal areas and inside the classroom.

Current recommendation is that rooms should be 'well-ventilated'. While staff monitor the room temperature and battle between thermal comfort and ventilation, please be advised it is colder than usual. Please ensure your child is wearing layers to keep them as warm as possible.

We will continue to have an enhanced cleaning schedule, with frequently touched surfaces being sanitised regularly. Pupils, and staff, will be continuing to wash their hands regularly to reduce the spread of germs.

A thorough risk assessment has been completed and submitted by the LA.

Please can you ensure that you follow the latest government guidelines to reduce transmission.

Courage

''Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your god is with you wherever you go.'

Joshua 1.9

Courage is:

Carrrying on when things are difficult

Overcoming fear

Understanding and facing a challenge

Risking being our of our comfort zone

Always believing God's promises

Going for a goal

Empowered by encouragement

This half term we will be learning about courage and how it takes great courage to do something new or challenging. We will be looking at different Bible stories to help us to understand this and looking at courageous people from the Bible.

Curriculum for Wales

September 2022 will see the start of the roll out of a brand new curriculum in Wales.

You can find further information on our website

and

https://gov.wales/education-changing

https://hwb.gov.wales/api/storage/016a744a-d1f4-4d61-8b35-0fe1648c1009/a-new-curriculum-in-wales.pdf

We are getting ready to implement these changes and a lot of work is going on 'behind the scenes' to ensure that we are ready. We will be updating you more and more as the weeks go on and give you further information about how this will change some of our expectations and teaching at Llansannor.

Our first change of focus is to make pupils and parents more familiar with the 'Four Purposes' of the New Curriculum. With an emphasis on 'Ambitious and Capable learners.'

We hope that our pupils will be 'Ambitious and Capable Learners' that will be ready to learn throughout their lives. At Llansannor, we have spent a lot of time working out what this means for us and our children.

Ambitious and Capable Learners

Ambitious and capable learners at Llansannor

We have 'broken down' each of the statements and decided what this will look like for us. Over the next few weeks we will be using these words and phrases and giving rewards to those showing that they are ambitious and capable learners.

We would like all our Nursery and Reception children to learn these skills.
When our 'Getting Going' skills have been mastered we will work on these 'improving' statements.
Learners in the 'Transforming' stage will be looking at developing these skills.
It is our hope that every pupil leaving Llansannor will be 'achieving' all of these statements.

Over the next term we will be looking at the Four Purposes; setting Homework and completing class based tasks using each of the four purposes. We would like for the children to become familiar with this new vocabulary. Please try to use these words and phrases at home and point out if your child is being Ambitious and Capable at home.
