Did you ever notice the letters TC in front of a collie's registered name? Did you ever wonder what it stood for? If you haven't seen it or don't know what it means, there's good reason. There are currently only nine collies in breed history that have attained this coveted title. They are James, Scooter, Jif, Logan, Ivan, Gabby, Katie, Sequel and Topper. These dogs embody the idea that greatness is rare by definition. It takes an enormous amount of dedication, perseverance, skill and incredible teamwork with your dog to attain a Triple Championship. Read on to learn which titles constitute a Triple Championship and to meet these great dogs.

First, let's sort out the title requirements. Any dog that has been awarded the title of Dual Champion (DC) and the title of Obedience Trial Champion (OTCH) or Tracking Champion (CT) or Agility Champion (MACH or PACH) may be designated as a Triple Champion. So you may be asking what is a Dual Champion? A Dual Champion is any collie that has been awarded the title of Champion of Record (CH) and also awarded a Herding Champion (HC). In short, a dual championship is Conformation Champion plus Herding Champion. A Triple Champion is Herding Champion plus Conformation Champion plus Obedience Champion, Tracking Champion or Agility Champion.

James

"James" was the first Triple Champion and is currently the only Smooth Collie Triple Champion in breed history. He is officially known as: TC Dbl-O-Seven Ability at Savoy, UDX, VER, HXAsdc, HXBsd, MX, MXJ, RAE. His route to the TC included the Conformation Championship (CH) in June 2003, Herding Championship (HC) in May 2004 and his Agility Champion (MACH) in January 2010. He is owned by Ericka Wojack.

Scooter

"Scooter," GCH, MACH5, HC, PACH Riverrun Wyndham’s Imagine That! ROM-P, CDX, RE, HXAsd, MXS2, MJG2, OF, PAX, GVA was the second Triple Champion and the first Rough Collie to attain the Triple Championship on October 2011. Amazingly, he was the first of four collies to earn the TC title for owner, Michelle Shoemaker.

Jif

On July 5, 2013, Sue Larson's "Jif," TC, GVA Trailwind Fairways Fast Forward, TDX, HSAds, HXAds, MXB, MJS, XF was the third Triple Champion in Collie history. His championship journey included Conformation in June 2010, Agility in January 2012 and Herding in July 2013.

Logan

In May 2015, Deanna Levenhagen's "Logan," TC, MACH3, PACH3, GV Rosehaevens Summit Nobility, UD, PCDX, RAE2, MXG, MJB2, XF, T2B2, MXP7, MSPS, MJP8, MJPG, PAX3, HXAsMdM, HIAsd, HSAsd, HXBdM, HIBd, HSBsd, PT, HT became a Triple Champion. He got his Conformation Championship in October 2011, his first of several Agility Championships (MACH) in March 2014 and his Herding Championship in May 2015.

Ivan

It was April 2, 2016 when "Ivan," TC, MACH2, PACH Ability's Rock Star, CD, BN, RAE2, HXBs, HXAdMsM, HXBdM, MXS, MJG, MXPs, MJP6, PAX2, XF, MFP, TKN became a Triple Champion by getting his Agility Championship. In July 2013 he was crowned a Conformation Champion, and in September 2013 the Herding Championship followed. He is owned by Jeanine Blaner.

Gabby

Michelle Shoemaker's second Triple Champion, "Gabby," earned her Triple Championship in June 2016. She is officially known as CH, MACH8, HC Riverrun Wyndhams Dream Girl, UD, RA, HXAsd, MXS3, MJS3, XF, GVA

Katie

"Katie" joined "Scooter" and "Gabby" of Michelle Shoemaker's Wyndham Collies by earning her Triple Championship in September 2018. She is CH, MACH, HC Riverrun Wyndham’s Imagine The Dream, RA, HXAsd, MXB, MJS, OF, GVA.

Sequel

Noreen Bennett's "Sequel," CH, HC, MACH Millknock Tri the Next Chapter, BN, RN, CDX, TD, HSAds, HIAds, HXAd, HSBd, MXC, MJC, MFC, T2B5, TQX, TKI, GV, ROM-P earned her TC in February 2019 with the Agility Championship (MACH). She earned her Breed Championship in August 2016 and the Herding Championship in September 2018. We also learned that she was the 87th All-Breed Triple Champion and the 50th Herding Triple Champion.

Topper

The youngest Triple Champion in Breed History is "Topper," who accomplished the feat in September 2020. He is CH, MACH, HC Riverrun Galatean Wyndhams Top Contender, CD, RN, HXAsd, MXB, MJB, NF, GVA, HSBd and is the fourth Triple Champion for owner Michelle Shoemaker.
