VISITS AND TRIPS

Fighting Words

The girls in 4th and 5th class enjoyed a day out at the 'Fighting Words' workshop as part of our World Book Day celebrations. With the help of the team at Fighting Words, they explored what makes a great story. They even got to write and publish their own story! They all really enjoyed the day out!

Gardaí

Maya and Brooke from Ms. Concannon's Junior Infants.

Each class got a special visit from two of the local community Gardaí. The Gardaí talked to the girls about their job and what they do on a daily basis. The girls got the opportunity to ask lots of questions. The highlight of the visit was getting to try on their special hat, hi vis jacket and using their walkie talkies and handcuffs.

Creative Schools

Thank you to Ms. Flynn for organising art workshops for some classes throughout the school. Ms Delaney's 5th class participated in a textile art workshop. Fiona Harrington, a textile specialist, came into the girls to create beautiful wall hangings from different fabrics and fibre. The girls thoroughly enjoyed this workshop! Creative Schools week will be taking place from May 9th- 13th. We are really looking forward to this!

Lifting Of Restrictions

Positive Changes

This half term has brought lots of positive change to our school and students have adapted wonderfully! Some of these changes include social integration and collaboration between classes/groups/year groups. During this transition from pods and zones, we have set up a third “buddy” yard on the basketball court. Senior classes are “buddying up” with the junior classes, many of whom have never been on yard before. Senior students have been showing the younger classes how to play yard games and modelling social interactions e.g. taking turns, initiating games, fair play, inclusion.

Initiatives

Engineering Week

Congratulations to our STEM committee led by Ms. Concannon who organised a wonderful Engineering Week. There was lots of constructing, experimenting and designing going on throughout the school. It was really great to see students problem solving and collaborating in groups. The girls also got to engage in a 'Teacher Swap' day which was a huge success. A big thank you to Joanna Nunes, Neil Hardy, Jose Fonseca and Louise Hopkins who came in to speak with the girls and share what it is like to be a real engineer. It was a fantastic week for all!

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí am iontach againn ag ceiliúradh 'Seachtain na Gaeilge' sa scoil. Míle buíochas ar Ms McDonald as na gníomhaíochtaí go léir a eagrú.

We had an excellent time celebrating 'Seachtain na Gaeilge' in the school. A huge thank you to Ms. McDonald for organising all the activities. Students and teachers were very busy preparing songs/dances/poetry and artwork. On Friday, we all gathered in the hall to watch all the performances and had a ceilí to finish off a wonderful week! Throughout the week, many students were trying out their Gaeilge at the gates in the morning and informally in classes with each other!

The girls in Ms. O'Neill and Ms. Barry's classes took part in the Science Blast investigation this year. Ms O'Neill's fifth class researched the question "What factors affect our balance?" while Ms Barry's sixth class decided to research the question "Does the length of our limbs affect our performance in different sporting activities?'" The girls were delighted to have their projects showcased in the hall for the ESB roadshow. John and the team from Science Blast visited the girls with their camera crew to see the girls projects and ask them lots of questions about their investigations. This was a super day, with lots of fun had by all!

The girls in Mrs. Delany’s Fifth Class continue to enagage in the Junior Achievement Programme under the wonderful guidance of Ms. Megan Leonard from Expleo. Ltd. Over the past five weeks they have engaged in various STEM activities and have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

There was music played during yard time. The girls had great fun. The rainbow day was a great success and we raised a total of €1034 for Pieta House. Well done to all involved!

St Brigid's has definitely beneifited from having such a diversity of talent and energy in the school. Thank you and best of luck in your future endeavours.

Fantastic Fundraisers

  • Some of our wonderful students have taken it upon themselves to fundraise for various charities and causes outside of school. We feel they deserve a mention for their efforts:
  • Well done to Sienna in third class who raised €1800 for the Laura Lynn Foundation by chopping off her hair.
  • Well done to Freya and Jasleen from Ms. Farrell's class who raised €328 for Ukraine.
  • Huge congratulations to Grace & Cate Jordan as well as our wonderful caretaker Noel who joined Charlie Bird in climbing Croagh Patrick in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.
  • Lynn and Elizabeth from Ms. Shiels class have set up thier own jewellery business selling loom bands & aqua beads with proceeds going to The Irish Red Cross.

Traffic

Thank you to parents for taking on board our requests not to double park on St. Brigid's Road and to leave a space for the school bus. Reports of incidences have decreased and will hopefully continue to do so. A huge thank you to parents who have changed to park and stride. This is very much appreciated in terms of maintaining safety but also as an active schools strategy. Thank you!

Parents' Association

Thank you to the Parents' Association for all of their work in particular the fundraising work they do for the school. Students continue to enjoy and benefit from engaging in activities like cycling, habitat mapping, wellbeing workshops, outdoor learning, learning to play the recorder and accessing events e.g. cross country running, as a result of fundraising.
