Fork Union Defeats Carmel School at Home
Monday, April 17, 2023
FORK UNION, VA – The Fork Union Military Academy tennis program defeated Carmel School, 7-2, Monday afternoon at the Fork Union Tennis Courts.
The victory marks the first of the season for the Blue Devils.
“The cadets worked tirelessly to improve after they dropped their first match against STAB. They have spent hours each week working on serves, returns, and doubles play. It was a proud moment for me as a coach to see the cadets’ hard work pay off with their first win of the year,” said first-year head coach Alex Grant, who recorded his first career win.
In singles play, the Fork Union backcourts were flawless with only dropping two sets. No. 2 George Boitano, No. 3 Jose Romero Jimenez, and No. 5 Godwin Vander Weide all blanked their opponents, 8-0. No. 4 Clayton Rosen and No. 6 Minh Dao both defeated their opponents, 8-1.
Carmel claimed their lone singles victory at the No. 1 spot against Simon Price.
In doubles play, No. 2 Dominic Lancey/Jose Romero Jimenez and No. 3 Clayton Rosen and Godwin Vander Weide both blanked their opponents, 8-0, to secure the victory. Fork Union dropped the top spot to give Carmel its two points.

Fork Union Places Second at the 22nd Annual Gus Lacy Track Classic
Saturday, April 22, 2023
FORK UNION, VA – The Fork Union Military Academy outdoor track and field program placed second at the 22nd annual Gus Lacy Track Classic this past Saturday at the Gus Lacy Track.
The Blue Devils recorded an impressive 20 top-10 performances, including seven medalists and four champions.
“You can’t stop the Gus Lacy Track Classic. You can only contain it for a short time,” said head coach Winston Brown. “I just want to thank everyone that was part of the event. To all that pitched in to work it to all that competed. What a great effort for FUMA. There were many top marks for our team and several champions. Harry Momolu was great as was Charles Campbell. Jackson Edwards will be a sub two-minute half-miler soon and I believe the best is yet to come for Ayden Bland. Our shot putters were awesome today. What an improvement for both Jonie Ansah and Ahmad Shah. Dreylan Creasy showed a lot of grit despite not feeling well. Lastly, David Eaton is now number one among Virginia Middle Schoolers for the 800 and fellow middle-schooler Ronan Montes is just plain tough.”
Harry Momolu led the team with two gold medals, winning the 110-meter hurdles (14.81) and the 300-meter hurdles (43.12). Charles Campbell won the 200-meter with a time of 22.63, while Dreylan Creasy tied for first in the high jump, clearing 5-feet, 10-inches.
Following the event winners, Jackson Edwards placed third in the 800-meter with a time of 2:00.40 and Ayden Bland took second in the long jump with a 21-04.00 performance.
In the shot put, Jonie Ansah placed third (44-00.00), Ahmad Shah took fourth (43-11.00) and Dauoda Niang took sixth (41-01.05).
The meet was altered by several thunderstorms causing several events to be performed inside. This year’s honorees were Peter and Alex Lomong of Fork Union, Va.
Fork Union will return to action Friday, April 28 when the squad travels to the Volunteer Track Classic at the University of Tennessee.
Fork Union Defeats Virginia Academy on Senior Day
Wednesday, April 26, 2023
FORK UNION, VA – The Fork Union Military Academy Prep lacrosse team defeated Virginia Academy, 11-4, Wednesday at the Stadium Field. Prior to the start time, the Fork Union Athletic Department honored its seven seniors on their final home game of their careers.
The win lifted the Blue Devils to 3-4 overall with four remaining away games.
“I am really proud of the performance by our guys against Virginia Academy,” said head coach Chip Chace. “We spent a lot of time in practice working on a few things that we have been struggling with in past games and it was great to see them execute. It’s always great to get a win but it's even better when you get one for the seniors in their last home game of the season. We still have four games left and hopefully this win will help us finish the year strong.”
Senior Lucas Yates and freshman Kian Perez led the squad with three goals, while junior Emerson Smith and senior Michael Marandure each scored twice. Senior Austin Lenherr also found the back of the net for the Blue Devils.
Senior James Clarke was in goal for Fork Union and recorded eight saves on the day to secure the win.
The Blue Devils return to action Wednesday, May 3 when they travel to Collegiate School for a 4:30 p.m. game.
Fork Union Defeats Fishburne Military at Home
Thursday, April 27, 2023
FORK UNION, VA – The Fork Union Military Academy Prep baseball team defeated Fishburne Military School, 12-3, Thursday afternoon at the Stadium Field.
The win improves the Blue Devils to 3-7 overall.
“After a tough loss prior to this, our boys bounced back,” said head coach Jacob Grabeel. “Many contributed to this win, but Manglicmot gave us a great start on the bump that kept the momentum on our side. He has been very consistent this year for us and keeps us in ball games!”
Fork Union recorded 13 hits on the day. JW Austin, Tommy Manganiello, Tyler Manglicmot and Jack McCall all managed multiple hits for the Blue Devils. Austin led the way going 3-for-4. The Blue Devils didn’t commit a single error in field.
“There were great hitting performances all around from many individuals,” said Grabeel. “Our bats are starting to get hot towards the end of the season, which is good to see. I am looking forward to this win giving us momentum for our back part of the season so we can finish strong.”
Manglicmot got the start for Fork Union, allowing just two hits and zero runs over three innings, while striking out six and walking none for the win.
