Lone Mountain Eagle Eye November 21, 2022

Lone Mountain Families,

November is a month to give thanks for the many things that we have and are grateful for in our lives. I am continually thankful for the supportive families that we have here at Lone Mountain. From our PTO, to volunteers, to our substitutes who fill in and support our staff please know that we can not do this work without you.

As we lead up to Thanksgiving this week, the staff and I are encouraging the students to give thanks to the many people that support them here at school and in life. I would encourage you do that as well because a word of thanks can make a world of difference to someone. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving break and if there is anything that I may do for you or your child please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully, Emily Hill

LONE MOUNTAIN NEWS

"SOAR" EXPECTATIONS AT LONE MOUNTAIN

This year we continue with our positive behavior interventions and "SOAR" expectations for students to follow in the classroom and around campus. The acronym SOAR stands for Safety, Ownership for your actions/words, Attitude, and Respect. These are character traits that we talk about daily within the classrooms and around campus. When these specific traits are shown staff members can give each student a SOAR card that they label with their name and then drop into a raffle for a monthly prize drawing.

BALLOONS OVER MONTGOMERY

Our Balloons Over Montgomery Parade was a success and we are hopeful to have it become an annual tradition here at Lone Mountain. Last week LMES students read the story, Balloons Over Broadway, in the library. This is the true story of how the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade started and evolved. During STEAM, each grade level then worked on a specific project that correlated with the story. These items were then displayed in the parade around campus. Check out the pictures of our parade and our students' hard work. Way to go Eagles!

ATTENDANCE AT LONE MOUNTAIN

Did you know? Attendance Matters

  • Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  • Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
  • Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
  • Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
  • Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.
  • High rates of absenteeism affect our school's letter grade from the Arizona Department of Education.

As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.

LEARNING AT LONE MOUNTAIN

From the classroom to the playground, learning at Lone Mountain is always fun! This week's pictures include teamwork and problem solving in P.E. class, a visit from the Phoenix Art Museum to sixth grade to learn about Ancient Egypt and China, and completing a variety of builder kits donated from the Home Depot in STEAM class.
