What is SCJCL ?

The South Carolina chapter of the Junior Classical League is a diverse group always looking for new members. The Junior Classical League is built on the purpose of promoting the study of the classics, ancient Rome and Greek, and latin. Being in JCL is more than just joining a club. When you become a part of JCL you join a family, as member you are cared about by your peers, and advocated for by your leaders.

Future Events

  1. November 12, 2022 Fall Forum at the University of South Carolina
  2. March 11, 2022, Spring Forum at Trinity Collegiate School
  3. July 22-27, 2023, National JCL Convention

The Pop-tart Enthusiast

As Jr. Editor, it was Ben’s job to find the favorite pop tart flavors of all NJCL students. He went to Colloquia sessions during nationals listening to many speakers talk about the wonders of Latin. The attendees were very fond of the brown sugar cinnamon flavor. Next for Strawberry, he had to participate in the many sports that were all throughout the week. For S’mores he had to swim through the swamp in the center of the campus and wrestle an alligator. For Birthday Cake, the hardest one of all, he had to survive each treacherous day, and still show up to Fellowship. When he made it to the “That’s Entertainment” talent show with all the Pop-tarts the SCJCL members cheered his name because he had saved the day by discovering everyone’s favorite snack!

Meet the Officers

President, Alden O.

Hey, I'm Alden, a junior from Trinity Collegiate and your <insert "best" with a strikethrough> SCJCL President. Latin-wise, I'm currently taking a dual-enrollment class, and I'm enthused to help with SCJCL for another year!I'd consider myself a pretty odd mix of traits. Combine an interest in mathematics, a love for pixel art, and a seething hatred for your favorite pastries—donuts are generally terrible and you're not convincing me otherwise—and you get me. I like to spend my free time playing video games, drawing things (typically related to said video games), or learning more about whatever subject matter interests me at the time, whether it be math or physics or linguistics.

1st Vice President, Liza C.

I am Liza, and I am the 2022-23 First Vice President. I go to Trinity Collegiate School and I am in the 11th grade. I attended the National Junior Classical League Convention in Lafayette, and have been in JCL for 5 years!

2nd Vice President, Jameson S.

Hey, y'all! My name is Jameson, and I am a 10th grader at Trinity Collegiate School. I play basketball and soccer, I am a member of my school's debate club and mock trial team. This past summer I attended my second National Convention, and I have been a member of SCJCL for 4 years. I hope your school years are off to a good start, and I can't wait to see you all at the fall workshop.

Historian, Josh S.

My name is Josh Sto. Domingo and I’m serving as your 2022-23 Historian. I am currently a junior at Trinity Collegiate School and I’ve been taking Latin since 7th grade. I play golf and basketball in my freetime and I plan to go to Clemson University.

Parliamentarian, Liz A.

Salvete Omnes! I’m Liz, your SCJCL parliamentarian! I am currently a sophomore at Trinity Collegiate School. I am on my schools mock trial and debate team. This will be my fourth year taking Latin and my first time serving on the board. I look forward to making great changes to the constitution as well as making the election process more efficient. I also can’t wait to meet all of you and share our common passion for the classical languages.
