Eyes and high-fives is all about being a people watcher. It's not directly about writing. Hmm... how can that be?
We know our stories need descriptions. They need action. As writers, we need to "open the curtains." We can't have a bunch of "he said, she said," dialogue. We need to describe what characters are doing with their hands, their feet, their eyes.
So... when you're not writing, be a people watcher. Keep a journal. Describe some of the things you see, to save them for later for use in your own writing.
As some examples, describe this girl's hair. How might it be different if she were on a date? What do different drinks look like. Hey, I just noticed the spoon. Wow, cool phone. Check out the eyes. You get the idea.
Do you lean back or lean forward when you are talking softly or loud? What about hands and feet? Toes too?
