Harper wins women's title in dominating fashion

Utica, NY - For the second time in school history and since 2011, Harper (IL) has won the 2023 NJCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship at Mohawk Valley Community College. The Hawks scored 138.5 points throughout the event, winning by 42.5 points over second-place and defending champion DuPage (IL).

Joliet (IL) finished in third place with 77 points, giving NJCAA Region 4 all three of the top three finishers. Suffolk County (NY) and Mineral Area (MO) rounded out the top five.

Harper earned the gold, with DuPage finished in second place. Joliet rounded out the top three.

Road to Victory

The Hawks held an impressive week in Utica, taking home national championships in six events.

Lilly Alberts had a strong week by winning the 800m and being a part of the 4x800, 4x400, and 4x100 championship teams.

Freshman sisters Lily and Chloe Wintergerst finished first and second in the pole vault, while sophomore Fiona Metzo took home the gold in the 1500m.

Chaps finish as the runner-up

DuPage had a strong week, finishing in the top three in seven different events.

Freshman Patrycja Karpiesiuk finished second in the high jump, 200m, and 100m. Karpiesiuk was also a part of the Chaps third-place 4x100 team.

Distance runner Lillian Buzani gave it them all this week, claiming a podium finish in the 5000m, 800m, and the 4x800 team which finished second.

Wolves finish in third place

Joliet finished the week with 77 points and top-three finishes in six events. The 4x100 team finished second, earning eight points with a mark of 51.21. Lexi Clarke was a part of the second-place 4x100 team, and 4x400 team while also finishing second in the 800m.

Heptathlon Spotlight: The event is a culmination of the 100m hurdles, 200m, high jump, shot put, long jump, javelin, and 800m. Malia Fowler of Suffolk County claimed first place with a total score of 3,704. Megan Carden of SUNY Broome (NY) finished close behind in second with 3,357. Howard (MD) freshman Rashell Buynum rounded out the top three.
