Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I do hope you have had a great week.
Thank you very much to the families who attended our Summer Fair fundraiser last Saturday afternoon. We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout and estimate over 250 people were in attendance. Your support was really appreciated and helped us raise over £3000 for CAFOD; a fantastic amount! It was lovely to see our wider school community come together informally and enjoying the many stalls and activities provided. I must thank the staff and Governors for their support, but particularly Mrs Griffin who coordinated the event so well. The work she put in to prepare was really significant. The Summer Fair was a fantastic way to celebrate the end of the academic year. See for yourselves in the video below.
In the final 2 weeks of school we are continuing to focus on our learning in lessons. We intend to arrange a number of special events and trips for pupils to mark the end of the academic year and I’m sure pupils will enjoy these experiences too. Pupil reports will be sent home next week and we do hope you enjoy reading about the many successes and achievements made by our pupils this year. I was really proud reading of the successes that so many pupils have had and these are reflected well in the reports. If you have any concerns or worries, after reading the report, do please contact the class teacher to discuss before the end of term.
Today we had our assessment for CAFOD’s Live Simply Award in recognition for the work we have undertaken in meeting Pope Francis’ Laudato Si (care of our common home) message. We were able to share our many achievements in this area of work with the assessors and hope to be able to let you know the outcome next week. We had a team of pupils who met the assessor who were excellent ambassadors for the school. We are really proud of the way the school community has embraced this initiative this year.
Can I remind you please that the summer term ends at 1.30pm on Friday 21st July. We have informed transport of the earlier pick up. The new school term starts at 9am on Tuesday 5th September. We are anticipating that the new building work will have begun by then and we may have to amend our transition routines to transport at the start and end of the day. We will however, do all we can to support the pupils in managing any new arrangements when we are able to confirm them.
I hope you and your families have a great weekend.

Our Catholic School
"Jesus leads us to go out from ourselves more and more, to give ourselves and to serve others”
Pope Francis
How is it July already? The weeks are just flying by. How do we have only three weeks left of school? I think time definitely flies when you're having fun and at SJV we enjoy our time in school so much it really does fly by.
Our focus this week is based on Jesus' expectation of us to give of ourselves to freely serve others. So we ask ourselves, how can we give ourselves more freely? What could we do to help support each other this week?
Thanks to everyone who came and supported our school fair last weekend, it was lovely to see all our parents, carers, family and friends.
At the time our newsletter goes to press Mr Moloney, Father Nick, representatives of our Chaplaincy leaders and myself will have just completed a zoom accreditation meeting for the CAFOD ‘Live Simply’ award. The SJV school community has worked very hard all year to look after the environment. We have tried to live simply and show solidarity for the poor. We had the pleasure of presenting a PowerPoint all about our work and achievements and the chaplaincy team spoke about the impact it had of them. Hopefully, soon I will be able to give you the outcome.
This week the chaplaincy team reflected on the leavers mass; it was wonderful that they were able to help prepare it with us. They continue to work on our end of year Mass
In RE we looked at different faiths in our community and how vital it is to understand the importance of other faiths' traditions. Some of the older students have looked at community cohesion and the importance of working together. Faith can transform lives and the community we live in.
