1. ABOUT VISA WELLINGTON ON A PLATE

Visa Wellington On a Plate is the southern hemisphere’s biggest culinary festival, and runs from 1 - 31 August 2022. The festival celebrates the best of the region’s hospitality and producers, and cements the Wellington region as New Zealand’s culinary capital. People can head along to ticketed festival events as well as fun pop-ups throughout the month.

There are a few different elements of the festival including:

  • Dine Wellington - chefs across the capital create unique dishes that showcase the best of the region
  • Cocktail Wellington presented by Tommy's - our top bartenders create unique cocktails inspired by the city
  • Garage Project presents Burger Wellington - the ultimate battle of the burger, with surprising and intriguing flavours each year challenging the very notion of what a burger is and could be
  • Festival Events and Pop Ups - fun one-off events and foodie happenings from decadent dinners to hands-on workshops, there's something for everyone to explore

This is a food festival for everyone, there’s something to suit all budgets and tastes. After the festival closes the industry gets together mid-September to celebrate the 2022 Visa Wellington On a Plate Festival Awards where we announce the overall winners for Dine Wellington, Garage Project presents Burger Wellington and Cocktail Wellington presented by Tommy's Real Estate Wellington.

Next Gen Rescued Food Fight

Capitol: Windy City Koura Souffle

Souffler means to blow, and the Capitol team dreamed up their offering on a particularly blustery Wellington Day. It was suddenly obvious that their story this year is the mercurial Wellington wind. They are excited by the opportunity to make crayfish bisque and to cure our own salmon roe for this dish, which is the starter in our three course Dine offering.

Tom’s dish reinvents Ray’s traditional Chicken soup recipe using modern cooking techniques and fresh local ingredients.
