COOLROOMS Palacio de atocha - Madrid

The Luxury of Being Cool

Hotel CoolRooms Palacio de Atocha is a new concept for a luxury hotel, with 34 very spacious rooms housed in a refurbished building dating from 1852 in the heart of the Barrio de las Letras district of Madrid. Cosmopolitan and palatial, it features a spectacular entrance guarded by the figure of the god Hermes which conveys the nobility of the building, while its carriage passageway leads to a secret garden and pool. It whispers the allusion of the success and triumph of its former owner - Sir Nemesio Sancha - high ranking official of the Ministry of the Navy and Knight of the Order of Charles III.

Palacio de Atocha is located near to the Prado Museum and Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, the majestic Plaza Mayor, Soceidad Cervantina where the first Don Quijote was printed, and many more important points of interest.

COOL ROOMS

The Palacio offers several types of rooms and suites that are some of the largest guest rooms and bathrooms in the capital. Accommodations are extremely generous in size for a city center hotel - between 34 and 104m2 (111 X 341 Ft. Sq. ) Their generous proportions and very high ceilings allows natural daylight to flood the rooms. The decoration and comfortable beds are designed exclusively for CoolRooms and are mixed with designer furniture. One can describe the design as halfway between a classical and contemporary style.

CoolRooms Hotel Palacio de Atocha features 34 rooms of a unique size in Madrid (between 34 and 104m2.). Their generous proportions and very high ceilings recall palatial sensations that have been interpreted in two well-differentiated styles by the interior designers of Proyecto Singular. The rooms on the first floor have a more masculine and industrial character - loft-style - and are equipped with micro-cement bathrooms and cast-iron fittings. The rooms on the first floor are more classic and sophisticated, with bathrooms that combine black and white and radiate great sobriety and elegance.

THE COOLEST BATHS

The hotel has 5 Deluxe Rooms (34m2), 7 Premium Rooms (45 m2), 10 Junior Suites (60m2), 7 Suites (70m2), 3 Master Suites (70-110m2) and 2 CoolSuites (90-104m2), each of them individually designed to provide different experiences.

CoolSuites

Among the rooms, two CoolSuites are a favourite as they offer their own private terrace and outdoor jacuzzi overlooking the rooftops of Madrid. They honour the artistic energy of the city and district in which the hotel is situated.

One suite reproduces a photographer’s studio with vintage cameras, a small photographic library and two exceptional vantage points overlooking the domes of the skyline.

The second suite recreates the magic of a great artist atelier and is an invitation to take the brushes and paints available in the suite to capture a view of the surroundings. Very cool indeed.

Gastronomy - El Patio

Gastronomy is the creation of Chef Eduardo Gutierrez runs the kitchen of the restaurant-terrace El Patio de Atocha.

"I look for originality in my dishes to surprise my diners. I like to deconstruct dishes that reveal the most authentic flavours of Madrid and give them that 'innovative travelling touch'. Always respecting the local, quality product, the artisan elaboration and looking for poetry in this fusion of flavours and cultures, like the 'Cultures' art collection of Rocio de la Torre's work that is exhibited in our Palace," says Chef Eduardo Gutiérrez showing his artistic sensitivity.

And all this is achieved with the best seasonal produce and very little manipulation, using traditional techniques that incorporate some crunchy ingredients, lighter sauces and long cooking times. In addition, the menu introduces daily variations and plays with current concepts such as Slow Food or organic cuisine.

About Chef Eduardo Gutiérrez. His relationship with cooking began when he was a child, helping his mother in the kitchen. At the age of 16 he was already working in the picnic area of his homeland, Los Navalucillos, Toledo. Although his studies were directed towards engineering, he soon realised that cooking was his passion and he began to take different cookery courses, training courses, internships and to experiment and create. He worked at the Hotel El Coto, where he learnt the solid basis of cooking, garnishes, sauces, techniques and elaborations. He worked in the kitchens of Paco Quirós, Joseba Guijarro, Hotel Urban and DiverXo, stopping off in Mexico for a couple of years in between. His aim is to make El Patio de Atocha a gastronomic meeting point for the cosmopolitan Madrid public and the international traveller who stays at Palacio de Atocha.

The terrace is an oasis of calm in the centre of Madrid, with a small pool that appears and disappears by magic and a fountain whose sound becomes the soundtrack of the gastronomic experience. On Sundays, its brunch from 12:00 to 14:00 has become a must in the capital city.

EL PATIO DE ATOCHA AND BAR LOUNGE

The Bar Lounge creates premium cocktails complete with the idea energy to enjoy Madrid's evenings and nights to the fullest.

Restaurant

For those days when the weather is uninviting, the small restaurant lounge is exquisitely decorated with fine materials and the hotel's chromatic tones - greens, blues and oranges - which have a certain similarity with the chromatic range of its Lounge Bar.

The Pheasant Hunt fabric model by Guell Lamadrid stands out, with ornithological motifs, as do the magnificent paintings with different birds. The Portuguese table linen and Schott Zwiesel glassware are combined with tableware pieces by Churchhill and Pinson Living.

Design

The Palalcio de Atocha was developed by several teams uniting the rigorous sensitivity of the Antana architecture firm, the stylistic fluidity of Proyecto Singular's interior design approach and the poetic precision of Maria Covarrubias' lighting design. The result of this fusion is a signature establishment with spirit, capable of blending comfort and excitement - this is the hotel that was missing in Madrid.
