Welcome to Coulsdon Sixth Form Performing Arts department. Here at Coulsdon, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience which can take you straight into a career in the industry. You will study professional works practically and theoretically that will inspire and innovative developing artists.
To be successful on the course, you need to ensure you bring all of the required equipment to every lesson and rehearsal. Below is a list of the equipment you will need to start the course. We have a strict dress code in all lessons and rehearsals of plain black gym or dance attire (see below). You may also wear a Black Box Theatre Coulsdon branded t-shirt or hoodie if you choose to purchase. If you have any issues getting any of the equipment before you start or are on bursary and need assistance, please email Rebecca on rebecca.cristaldi@coulsdon.ac.uk.
- 2 x A4 exercise books or a folder with dividers and lined paper
- Sketch book with plain white pages (A4 or A5)
- A4 document wallet
- Black ball point pens
- Coloured markers and pencils
- Highlighters
- Pair of 'grip socks' or dance shoes for movement classes (jazz shoes, jazz sneakers or trainers)
- Plain black t-shirt (this can be long or short sleeve, fitted or loose)
- Plain black jogging bottoms or leggings
- **optional to purchase** Coulsdon Performing Arts/Black Box Coulsdon t-shirt, hoodie or iron on t-shirt label. Prices and order forms will be given out in first week of lessons
In Performing Arts every day is an audition and we want you to stand out from the crowd! We want you to create a self tape introducing yourself, your talents and telling us what it is about the performing arts that inspires you.
Top tip - be creative!
For example your self tape can be in the form of a monologue, song/rap, a dance or show reel of your best performances. Remember you are applying to be a Performing Arts student, make sure the tape reflects your creativity and your talents. Your self tape should be no more then 2 minutes long.
This will need to be submitted by Friday 13th September.
Please submit your self tape to the folder below, labelling your video with your full name.
You will prepare a digital presentation based on the research you investigate of one of the performing arts Practitioners listed below. This task has been designed to develop your research skills whilst developing critical analysis skills and contextual understanding of how practitioners communicate themes in their work. Your presentation can be in written or video format (be creative!)
- A short bio on the Practitioner
- Date and place of birth
- List of works with dates
- Influences and Key features on their work
- Main themes
- Critical review of a scene from one of their works
- Pictures/Links/videos of their professional work
- Bibliography
Practitioners to choose from; Frantic Assembly, Punchdrunk, Augusto Boal, Antonin Artaud, Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Berkoff or DV8.
Please submit the Research task by the 13th September to the folder using this link below. Remember to label your work with your full name.
