Dear Families,
We would like to thank everyone in our community for a successful term. Thank you for your support with our school raffle and our Christmas Bingo during recent weeks. In total, we have raised almost £1500 to support school funds!
We look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Monday, 9th January.
We wish you all a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Important Information - Please Read
Schools receive additional money based upon the number of pupils who are in receipt of free school meals. This money is used to provide additional staffing to support pupils.
Despite the fact that Welsh Government is rolling out universal free school meals, we still need parents to register for free schools meals to qualify for additional funding support.
A pupil may be able to get free school meals if their parent or guardian gets any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided the parent isn’t entitled to Working Tax Credit and has an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after a claimant stops qualifying for Working Tax Credit to 31 March 2019, Universal Credit 1 from 1 April 2019, Universal Credit, provided the household has an annualised net earned income of no more than £7,400 (as assessed by earnings from up to three of their most recent assessment periods).
- Pupils who receive Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income
- Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance in their own right could also be able to receive free school meals.
For children/young people to be eligible to receive free school meals:
- the parent (or child/young person) must be in receipt of the relevant benefit or support payment
- an application for free school meals should have been submitted to the local authority
- the application should have been approved, or documents should have been seen that strongly indicate eligibility.
You can apply by visiting Pembrokeshire County Council Website, or by calling into school.
If you think that you may qualify and you would like support or information, please call into our school office.
Thank You!
We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported us at the bingo this week. Our Friends of the School spent a huge amount of time preparing and working behind the scenes to ensure that the evening ran smoothly. Thank you!
A proportion of the money was used to purchase every child a small chocolate selection box for Christmas.
Port Authority and Springboard Partnership
Thank you to the Port of Milford Haven and the Springboard team who have worked hard during the Autumn Term to enhance our facilities with a boardwalk. The boardwalk provides wheelchair access to our Forest Schools area as well as making it a lot easier for your youngest pupils to access the woods without getting stuck in the mud!
Thank you to all involved, we really appreciate you giving up your time!
Headteacher Information
As you are aware, since September, Mr. Thomas has been supporting Fenton C.P. School in Haverfordwest. This arrangement is set to continue for the remainder of the academic year. In Mr. Thomas's absence, I am deputising. It is with regret, that it is untenable for me to maintain my class responsibilities, whilst also taking responsibility for the running of the school and everything which that entails.
In January, Miss Ffion James is going to be joining our teaching team. Miss James and I are going to working closely to ensure a smooth transition for the pupils in Class Five. I will be teaching alongside Miss James for the first week and from that point on, I will be meeting with Miss James to support and guide her as she learns about all of the systems that we have put in place.
Thank you for your support and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Mr. Williams.
Welcome Miss James
Croeso Miss James!
Miss. Ffion James is going to be joining Johnston C.P. School in January. Miss James has worked abroad for a number of years and she has a passion for the performing arts. Miss James loves outdoor learning and is looking forward to developing opportunities for our pupils.
Well Done to all of our Musicians
Thank You Mr. Rees
It is with great sadness that we must report that Mr. Rees will be leaving Johnston School at the end of the Autumn Term.
Mr. Rees joined Johnston School in 2018 and quickly became a valued member of staff in our Learning Resource Class for Key Stage Two pupils. Mr. Rees has always created a warm, kind and inclusive atmosphere in his classroom and many children have benefited from the support and guidance which he has been able to offer. Many children, who had struggled in other settings, have achieved a great deal at Johnston thanks to the help of Mr. Rees.
As an LRC teacher, Mr. Rees has developed a reputation as an excellent practitioner throughout the county, working closely with Mrs. Wood to continually improve the provision in the classroom. Welly Wednesdays and bucket times, are only a few of the ideas which Mr. Rees has enjoyed leading.
Mr. Rees has also contributed a great deal to the school in other areas. He has shared his love of the Welsh Language and singing as well as running sports clubs and sharing his enjoyment of cricket. Mr. Rees has supported residential visits and provided guidance for school plays and other events.
We would all like to wish Mr. Rees the best for the future and we hope that he will come back and visit us regularly!
L.R.C. Staff Arrangements
In January, Mr. Colville and Mrs. Gibbens will be sharing responsibility for the teaching of our LRC Two Class. Mr. Colville is an experienced teacher and has taught in the LRC for a number of years. Mr. Colville has a passion for sport and the outdoors and he is looking forward to sharing this with pupils.
Mrs. Gibbens is also an experienced LRC teacher and most recently has been working in LRC One, at Johnston C.P. School. Mrs. Gibbens is looking forward to using pupils' interests to drive learning and to supporting pupils to make excellent progress across the curriculum.
