Adams Update March 3, 2023

March is Reading Month

We love to read at Adams Elementary! There are many wonderful things about March: March Madness basketball tournaments, Spring Break is just around the corner (!), and March is Reading Month! Here at Adams we will celebrate in a number of ways, including next week's Spirit Days, and our annual Read-a-Thon. The Read-a-Thon is a fundraiser that helps support our annual 5th grade trip to Greenfield Village at the end of the year, so please chip in and help with that if you feel so inclined, and thank you! The Spirit Days for next week are listed below--have fun, and have fun reading this month!

120 Days Brighter in the First Grade!

This week our first grade classes celebrated the fact that they are 120 days brighter, now that we have had 120 days of class this school year! Students played games, completed activities, and celebrated their learning so far. Thank you to the teachers and volunteers who helped to make this fun activity happen, and way to go, Adams Atoms first graders!

French Voyageurs Explore Adams Elementary!

Michigan history is the primary focus of third grade Social Studies, so our third grade classes enjoyed a visit from historian Randy Baker this week. His demonstration highlighted the life and times of the French Voyageurs, who were an important part of our past. Students learned about their explorations, how Michigan's vibrant waterways contributed to economic and cultural connections, and more. Educational, historical, and fun!

The Kindest Red Donated to Elementary Classrooms

Thank you to our community partners at the Islamic Center of Midland for their donation of the book The Kindest Red to MPS classrooms district-wide. This is a beautiful story, written by US Olympic medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad, and our students will undoubtedly enjoy reading it. Thank you to Umbareen Jamil and Maria Khan, Adams parents, who helped deliver the books.

Winter Fun at Adams Elementary

It's been such an unusual winter, so students are taking full advantage of our recent snows to enjoy the season on the playground. Parents, please remember to keep sending snow gear to school, and have fun outside, Adams Atoms!

Next Week - Music Class Performances

The Adams music classes will have a performance on Wednesday, March 8th. The performance times for each grade are listed below:

  • Kindergarten and 1st grade: 5:30-6:00 PM
  • 2nd and 3rd grade: 6:30-7:00 PM
  • 4th and 5th grade: 7:30-8:00 PM

Each performance will feature two grade levels and will last approximately 30 minutes. Parents are welcome to join us in the Adams Cafeteria, and each performance will also be livestreamed on YouTube. If you would like to watch the livestream, Mr. Webber will share the address on Canvas. Make sure you are listed as an Observer for your child and you will be able to access it. Not sure how to do that? Mr. Webber can help, email him at webbermj@midlandps.org.

Now Enrolling for Kindergarten 2023-24

Hello from the Adams PTO!

We have recently held the first Adam's game night! This event was a success and we look forward to more Adams community events in the future.

Due to the inclement weather our popcorn date will be March 17th and we will WEAR GREEN!

The PTO is looking forward to another walkathon (Friday, May 26 during school hours) with a goal to raise funds for both the general budget and the "dream big" plan. Your generosity has already allowed the PTO to purchase a chaos climber (to be installed), tether ball, gaga ball pit, and parallel bars (to be installed).

We kindly ask you to think if you or any family friends are part of a business that may want to become a sponsor this year. Pledges for walkers will be done closer to the event. At this time we are looking for sponsors and gift basket donations (kid themed). For more information or to give, please click the newsletter.

Thank you!
