Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Summer is here!
The Summer has really arrived now and it is lovely to see children enjoying the weather at break and lunch times. A reminder: it is important that children bring a hat and wear sun lotion to school to protect their skin, UV levels are very high at this time of year.
Cradle Project - Year Five
Year 5 are looking forward to performing their work with the Cradle Project at The Torch on Tuesday, 4th July at 1.30pm. Get your FREE tickets by following the link below ❤️
Precious things need to be protected and cherished. This has been the aim of The Welsh National Opera’s work with over 100 school children from Johnston Community Primary and Neyland Community School over the last year.
During this hour-long performance, enjoy brand new songs composed and performed by the school children, popular songs performed by WNO Cradle Choir and an ensemble of musicians and WNO soloists, in a celebratory performance of what has been achieved this year. Tickets are available for free.
Should anyone prefer, bookings can also be made by calling the Box Office on 01645 695267.

It is safe to say that our Summer Term curriculum is in full swing. We have had a Year 2 wedding, a Year 1 Christening, Year Four camping and a meadow study!
Attendance
Attendance this week:
- Yr1 91.6%
- Yr2 96.1%
- Yr3 92.8%
- Yr4 93%
- Yr5 89.2%
- Yr6 97%
- LRC 1 61.1%
- lrc2 98.4%
- AM 82.55
- P M 93.3%
- FT 90%
- School: 93%
School Attendance 93.7%. Well done to Class Four who have the highest attendance this week!
We are still working hard to improve our whole school attendance as much as possible. It is so important that children attend school everyday. In my experience, whilst children are occasionally nervous in the mornings, nearly all children love school, gaining a sense of achievement as they make progress in their learning. As we all know, the friendships that children form in school often last a lifetime and the social and emotional aspect of school life is just as important as the academic.
Our approach with attendance:
Our school target is for all pupils to have an attendance of 97% or above. Although illness does happen, wherever possible children should be in school if they are well enough to attend. Any non-medical absences will be unauthorised, other than in exceptional circumstances. Days missed quickly build up and have a real impact on learning. What absence means in real terms:
90% attendance = 1 day missed a fortnight = almost 4 weeks missed in a year
80% attendance = 1 day missed a week = almost 8 weeks missed in a year
Interesting (and shocking facts):
- A child with 90% attendance throughout their school life will have missed the equivalent of more than a year's worth of school lessons.
- Only 35% pupils who have less than 90% attendance achieve five or more good GCSEs, but 73% of pupils who have an attendance of 95% or more will achieve this.
Currrently, school attendance sits at 92.5%. Can we work together to push towards 94% by the end of the Summer Term?
Summer Performances
Pupils in Years One to Six are going to be working hard to produce Summer perfomances during this half term. Years One and Two will work together, Years Three and Four will work together, as will Years Five and Six. All performances will take place outside (as long as it doesn't rain) after school on Wednesday, 12th July. We know that the cost of living crisis has placed additional pressures on families and I am acutely aware that we routinely ask for money. Therefore, to make the performances as affordable as possible, we are going to sell tickets at £1.50 per person. The ticket will give you access to all concerts for example, if you have a child in Year Two and another in Year Six a £1.50 ticket will give you access to both of the performances.
Kind regards,
Mr. Williams.

We are looking for enthusiastic and creative young people to join us for a week of creativity, with a fabulous sharing in our studio at the end of the week.
This year we have both our Junior and Senior week-long provisions.
FEES: We are always happy to discuss ways to make paying our fees easier for anyone who wants to access our provisions and, if there is a way in which you would like to spread the cost which works better for you, please do get in touch with our team and we’ll be happy to help.
Details of our two provisions can be found below:
- Tall Tales for Year 3 to Year 6 (ages 7 -11)

Universal Free School Meals Information
Take advantage of free school meals to save time and money.
Want to save money and time on packed lunches? Is your child or children in Year Two or below and full time at school? Why not take advantage of the free hot or cold school meals available? There is always a sandwich or jacket potato option for children each day if they do not fancy a hot meal.
All your child has to do is to pick their meal option each morning at registration.
The three week rolling menu offers tasty, nutritious, balanced food inclusive of all dietary needs. Popular choices include pasta bolognaise, cowboy brunch and chicken wrap.
Concerned about allergies - our dedicated team of nutrition specialists can cater for any child that suffers from a food allergy or intolerance too.
If your child has a specific dietary requirement or restrictions please contact our School Liaison Officer via email elinor.phlip@pembrokeshire.gov.uk or telephone 01437 776168.
We have estimated that, with the increase in food costs, you could save more than £10 a week per child with foods typically found in school lunchboxes having risen on average around 70% in 18 months.
Universal Primary Free School Meals are available every day for all full-time children in Year Two and below. This initiative will extend to all Primary learners as of September 2023.
The scheme does not replace Free School Meals for those learners whose parents or guardians are receiving qualifying benefits, which allows them to access other financial support for school costs.
Take a look at the menus on offer on the Pembrokeshire County Council website and why not give free lunches a go!
