Volunteer Newsletter June / July 2020

We are missing our volunteers and hope you are all staying safe and happy!

This bi-monthly newsletter will keep you up-to-date on all things Allerton.

The Triangle Garden is looking spiffy since Peter and Micah planted about a million orange marigolds!

Enjoying Allerton outside of volunteering

While volunteering at Allerton has temporarily ceased, we hope you are still able to enjoy the Park. Volunteering will resume when it is safe to do so. Until then... the north and south sides of the Park are open for you to enjoy. In order to reduce the number of touchable surfaces, most buildings and restrooms are closed. Please visit our website for updates about visiting the Park safely.

We have gone virtual!

While we can't replace face-to-face interaction, we can bring you engaging virtual experiences that help you connect with Allerton. These virtual events are offered in either a live Facebook event or via Zoom. You can find details to participate on Allerton's Facebook page and website. Please reach out to Mindy (brand@illinois.edu) if you have questions about accessing this online content. Enjoy!

Volunteer Appreciation Month

April was Volunteer Appreciation Month! You were sent a token of our appreciation for everything you do in the form of a coupon to the Greenhouse Cafe... which unfortunately did not open this season. Hang tight and we promise to make it up to you when we are open again!

Congratuations to Staff

Two Allerton staff members have reason to celebrate. Park Supervisor, Peter Lichtenburger, is getting married June 6th! They are having a small wedding surrounded by dear family. And Mindy Brand, our Public Engagement Coordinator, has just graduated with her Master's Degree in Recreation, Sport & Tourism. Congratulations to them both!

Answer: Because she ran away from the ball!

Thank you!
