Daisy's mom was killed when she was young and her dad fled soon afterwards. She then moved in with family friends and at the age of 15 she began dating L.C. Bates (seen above) and three years later they were married.

Daisey Bates was a civil rights activist and a NAACP leader during the Little Rock desegregation crisis of 1957.

Bates helped with the integration of "The Little Rock Nine" into Central High School.

On September 4th 1957 The Little Rock Nine arrived at Central High School but the National Guard Blocked them from entering.

White Supremacists gathered at the Arkansas State Capitol to protest the integration of the Little Rock Nine into Central High School on September 20 1957.

the mayor feared that more violence would occur so he had the Little Rock Nine Removed from the school. The Arkansas police force was vastly out numbered by members of the angry mob so a few days later Eisenhower had the students escorted by National Troops.

The Arkansas federal guardsmen continued to Patrol the campus after the 101st Airborne Division was removed.

Years after the desegregation of Central High School, in 1960 Daisey Bates moved to New York to work on her memoir of the Little Rock Desegregation Crisis which later got published in 1962.

Bates then moved to Washington D.C. and worked with President Lyndon B Johnson's War on Poverty initiative. In 1968 she moved back to Arkansas and continued to work on local poverty issues in Mitchellville.

After Bates husband died she was focused on restarting the Arkansas State Press. Ernest Green worked as the marketing director of the newspaper and the paper reappeared in 1984.

On November 4th 1999 Daisey Bates died of a heart attack in Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
