Battling nose to nose with the Camels for the first three quarters, Colby was able to find the lead early in the fourth and control the pace from ahead.
Hill Continues to Rake, Leads Softball Over Bates in Nightcap Walk-off 3-2
Dropping the first contest with the Bobcats by a score of 6-4, Colby bounced back in a big way in Game 2. Bates took an early lead but the Mules chipped away with two runs in the 4th and the tying run in the 5th before eventually winning the game on Jackie Hill's double in the 10th.
Women's Lacrosse Keeps Rolling, Tops Conn. 14-6
Now ranked #8 in the IWLCA Poll, Colby's defense has proven to be one of the top units in the country. After holding Bates to five goals last week, the Mules held the Camels to only six.
Men's Tennis moves to 3-1, topping Trinity 7-2
Colby moves to #7 in the Northeast Region behind only Williams, Wesleyan, and Tufts from the NESCAC.
Max Schuermann and Sam Henry remain undefeated in doubles on the season, earning their fourth straight victory. Senior Sumukh Pathi is undefeated from the #3 spot.
Baseball Saves the Best for Last, Topping Trinity 3-2 in Game 4
The Mules have shown their depth during the shortened NESAC competition, working all four games of each series all the way to the end. Length played in their favor in a four game set against the Bantams.
Dropping the first game Saturday 11-1, Colby refused to let Trinity gain any space for the rest of the series. The nightcap Saturday fell in Trinity's favor 5-4, as did the opener on Sunday (2-0).
Saving the best for last, Colby topped the Bantams in the final game behind a Marcus Forrester RBI double in the 2nd sandwiched between a Caleb Maher home run in the 1st and single in the 4th.
First year pitcher Nick Thompson went 4.1 innings to pick up his first collegiate victory. He held the Trinity offense at bay, allowing two runs while striking out three and walking none.
Field Hockey and Women's Soccer Take on University of Southern Maine, both Victorious
Colby 2, USM 1 OT
Seeing their first action against outside competition since the fall of 2019, Colby stepped in against the Huskies on 24-hour notice. Their previously game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but COVID precautions forced that contest to the "cancelled" list.
Unwavering, the Mules were grateful for the opportunity and showed it with their passionate play. The Huskies played tough, working a 1-1 tie to the end of regulation. Two minutes into the extra period, first year Meg Rittenhouse tipped in the game winner on a feed from Lillian Kistner.
Colby 3, USM 0
The Mules tallied three first half goals to tip the field against the Huskies. Kerrie Verbeek, Charlotte White, and Kaylyn Krul each found the back of the net.
It was great to get back out on the field. It's been over a year, so to have this experience, under the lights, at home with our fans was a perfect way to end our season. I was pleased with the "compete-to-win" mentality and know great things await this group.
