Learning so far across school...

EYFS

KS1

What a fantastic start to the academic year we have had in Year 1!

This first half-term has been jam-packed with incredible enthusiasm for learning. I am very proud of every one of our little learners and how well they have taken the transition into Year 1, with a positive attitude and resilience.

In Literacy, we have been focusing on the story of Hansel and Gretel. We have fully immersed ourselves in the story and have even had a few run ins with the Witch, all caught by CCTV of course! We have been working super hard on our writing skills so that by the end of the half-term, we can write the narrative to tell the story of Hansel and Gretel.

In Maths, we have been focusing on numbers to 50. We have explored the composition of numbers and made comparisons using the greater gator. We have used our maths skills to try and help Hansel and Gretel escape from the Witch by cracking the code with part-part-whole models and we have even tried to trick the Witch by swapping her sweets for chickpeas using our mathematical skills! We have also been learning our 2 and 5 times tables.

In Curriculum, children have been focusing on their drawing skills in order to prepare them for our ‘Guess Who?’ art exhibition. They have been learning all about different sketching techniques such as hatching, cross hatching and stippling, to add in texture and depth to their drawing. We have also been working on pencil control and how we can add different tones to our pictures depending on the amount of pressure that we use. The children have then been applying these new skills by working on being able to draw a self-portrait in proportion with their features.

For science, children have been learning all about animals. We have learnt about animal classification and what features an animal must have to fall into each category. We have then focused on animal diet and sorted animal into groups of carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. We have also expanded our vocabulary for animal body parts and now know how to recognise different animal features.

Our first half term together as class 1/2 and what a wonderful one it has been!

We have fully immersed ourselves in our learning and begun with such a mature attitude to learning!

In Literacy this half term we have been focusing on the story Hansel and Gretel and of course the witch! Ask your children what we caught on CCTV!

In maths we have been looking at numbers to 50 and beyond using number lines and number squares. We have also had lots of practise with our 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

In curriculum we have been developing our drawing skills ready for our art showcase. We have used skills such as stippling, hatching, and developing light and dark tones with a pencil. We have some budding footballers that are showing off some fantastic dribbling skills in our PE lessons! Then we have been looking at health and wellbeing in PDRHSE, we particularly enjoyed the learning about the importance of sleep to help our brain develop.

Finally, we have been identifying common animals, their groups and what they eat. We are in the process of booking our first, class trip so please keep your eyes peeled for a letter!

We look forward to sharing some more of our learning soon!

Wow! What a fantastic half term we have had in Class 2!

The children have displayed a positive and mature attitude towards all their learning and really impressed the adults in class with what learning they have produced so far.

In Literacy, we have been focussing on the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. The children have written some wanted posters, police reports and are now onto writing their own amazing twisted tales based upon this story.

In maths, we have been focussing on place value, addition and subtraction. We have been working on reading and writing numbers to 100 and using different methods to find answers to questions.

In Art, with focus artist is Jackson Pollock. The children explored his work and experimented with colour mixing, different brush strokes and using different media to create marks. In remembrance of our late Queen, Elizabeth II, the children also created some beautiful pieces of artwork using water colours.

In Science, we are focusing on animals including humans. The children have particularly enjoyed learning about baby animals - we have realised there are some very interesting names for some baby animals!

In PE, we are focussing on football skills. The children have been developing their dribbling, passing and shooting techniques and will soon be applying these skills to some games of football.

Keep up the amazing work, Year 2!

It is quite unbelievable to think that we have already been back a month.

We kick started the year with a bang and I feel incredibly proud of year 3, and their efforts so far.

In literacy, we have been writing narratives to accompany the picture book Flotsam. We even had our own box of treasures that had been found on a beach including a very old Camera from the Victorian times.

In maths, we have focused on place value, as well as addition and subtraction and are becoming more confident with 3-digit numbers. We have started to learn our 3x table and our Times Table Rockstars scores are already showing an improvement.

Our artwork is based around the artists Van Gogh and David Hockney. We are aiming to produce a landscape painting of our own using the skills and styles that are typical of these artists. We are looking forward to showing our artwork off in the art exhibition later in the term.

We were extremely proud of the boys who went to take part in the Grassroots Handball competition. They won 4 out of 5 games and came 2nd. We are enjoying learning the skills for Tag Rugby in PE and have been learning to pass the ball to one another whilst on the move. We have played some fun games to practice the skills we have been taught.

This half term, in RE we are learning, why some words are special. We have listened to some stories based on the miracles of Jesus and learnt the story Jonah and the Whale.

We have been looking at our physical wellbeing in RSHE. The children have found it interesting to learn about how much sleep we need, how to get a good night’s sleep and why it is so important to our bodies. We have considered the things we eat and how to stay well, then looked at signs and symptoms of illness.

A great start year 3, keep up the hard work. I am impressed so far!

Newsletter Overview:

Autumn 1 Year 3 / 4

In literacy, we have been creating a descriptive setting opening from the picture book, “Farther”. Children have really enjoyed gathering emotive language and , in particular, they enjoyed using editing stations when editing their writing.

In maths, children have been adding and subtracting 3- digit numbers and applying this within word problems. We have also been learning strategies, daily, to derive and recall our x3 and x4 facts.

In topic, children have enjoyed analysing the different sculptures by ‘Kaw’. We will be learning different clay techniques with a view to creating our own sculpture out of clay – KAW style.

A month of learning. A month of fun!

We are having an amazing time in Y4. From learning about ‘The wild robot’ in Lira, to writing our own narrative where robots have become stranded on the silky, golden sands. (I totally didn’t magpie that idea from the students) The language features that the students were able to recall was very impressive, this allowed for them to identify key features of a narrative before inspecting each individual aspect. Currently, students are well underway with writing their own narrative.

The year 4s are seriously impressing myself with their hard work and that is showing through their fantastic work. Currently, we are looking at subtraction within Maths, where students are using prior learning to check answers through the inverse operations. They have a wonderful understanding, which is seen through some of their answers to tricky worded problems.

In our Art lessons, students getting stuck into clay work and sculpting hands in the style of KAWs. The techniques that students are using really demonstrates their understanding of the learning. The smiles that the students have show their enjoyment for learning new things. I can’t wait to see the final sculptures that are in the style of KAWS.

In RE, we have been looking at ‘Why are words special’. Once again, students have shown an excellent understanding of other religions through their responses and their work. They have learnt about key aspects of different religions and have begun to explain why different religions have these ideas and why they are so important.

Within RSHE, we have been looking at how to look after ourselves. This consists of brushing our teeth and why it is important, how to eat healthy, how to stay safe in the sun and who to contact if we are concerned about our health. All students showed a high level of maturity when discussing very important topics. This led to fantastic discussions in groups and this collaboration allowed for well-structured answers.

Overall, Year 4 have had an excellent start to the year, and I am really excited to see what students produce over the rest of our learning journey.

We have just started to send out our home school agreement, please ensure these are completed in full and handed back asap. Thank you.
