We look forward to welcoming back pupils on Monday, 27th February! We have a short but very busy half-term ahead of us and we look forward to sharing our learning with you!
What are pupils going to be learning about?
The 'rhythm of the year' is very important at Johnston and as we enter the Spring, many of our classes are going to be moving away from a history focus and using the outside to enhance their learning. We already have beach cleans, river studies and climate summits planned!
- Y6– Global Goals. How do we work together to address the climate crisis?
- Y5—Rescue the Rainforest. What changes can we make to support our planet?
- Y4—Oceans & Pollution. What can we do to reverse ocean pollution?
- Y3—The Arctic. How can we help the polar bears from Wales?-
- Y2— Dragons. Fact or Fiction?
- Y1- Splendid Skies. What’s the forecast today?
- R- Beautiful Botswana! Where do elephants come from?
- N— On Our Doorstep. What can we find in Maes Methrin?
- LRC - What effect is pollution having on us? LRC (Y2) - What do we need to survive? LRC (Y3) - How do things travel? (Humans and items)LRC (Y4) - How does the weather affect us?

Attendance
I would like to begin the term by reminding parents of the importance of good school attendance! New attendance rewards:
1. If a class achieves 100% for a week then they win a special prize!
2. A children with 100% attendance for a week win a raffle ticket which will be added to a fortnightly raffle! We have lots of prizes to give out!
Home Reading
There is nothing more important than home reading. Please ensure that your child is changing their home reading book regularly.
Top tips to support your child:
- Children should read out loud to an adult for up to twenty minutes (according to age) every day.
- Discuss what they have read with them after and ask them questions to ensure they have understood what they have read.
