Lone Mountain Eagle Eye November 28, 2022

Lone Mountain Families,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed time with their families and friends. As we head into these last few weeks before winter break, I appreciate you continuing to help your child stay on top of their studies and focused on learning. There is still a lot of learning to happen as we close out the second semester. There are also many events happening both off and on campus. Please make sure to mark your calendars for upcoming events. I wish you all a wonderful week.

Respectfully, Emily Hill

LONE MOUNTAIN NEWS

"SOAR" EXPECTATIONS AT LONE MOUNTAIN

This year we continue with our positive behavior interventions and "SOAR" expectations for students to follow in the classroom and around campus. The acronym SOAR stands for Safety, Ownership for your actions/words, Attitude, and Respect. These are character traits that we talk about daily within the classrooms and around campus. When these specific traits are shown staff members can give each student a SOAR card that they label with their name and then drop into a raffle for a monthly prize drawing.

ATTENDANCE AT LONE MOUNTAIN

Did you know? Attendance Matters

  • Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  • Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
  • Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
  • Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
  • Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.
  • High rates of absenteeism affect our school's letter grade from the Arizona Department of Education.

As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.

From the classroom to the playground, learning at Lone Mountain is always fun! Last week was a short one but our fourth graders took time to compare and contrast apple and pumpkin pie, and our kindergartners sang their hearts out at their Thanksgiving performance.
