Outdoor Ed takes on 6ft waves

Outdoor Ed teacher Derek Warner took his 1st and 2nd hour classes surfing at the Grand Haven City Beach on Wednesday September 30th from 7-11 a.m. The waves reached a height of 6 feet and the weather was in the low 50’s.

There was a red flag so students weren’t able to go deep in the water because the waves kept pushing them to shore. Although the conditions were not the best, students still had fun surfing rather than sitting in a classroom.

Some students managed to ride the waves.

Catching a break on balance

“It is fun no matter what the waves are like,” senior Cody Blake said. “I just like being in the water and getting out of school”

A few students sat out from surfing for the day because of the red flag.

“There was just no way that I would have put myself in that danger,” senior Tierza Biros said. “I don’t like swimming in the lake in general so there was no way to bring myself to get in that lake”

Big waves make it so students cannot get far out into the water.
