2021 Cross Country season recap
The Pack capped a dominating season by winning the 2021 NCAA National Championship, the first NCAA title in program history.
Overall, the women's cross country team won five competitions out of the six they participated in (adidas XC Challenge, Joe Plane Invite, ACC Championships, NCAA Southeast Regionals and NCAA Championships). Together, the Wolfpack women collected numerous group and individual accolades throughout the season.
In addition to winning its first National Championship last season, NC State also won its fifth-straight NCAA Southeast Regional Championship and captured the program's sixth consecutive ACC Championship during the 2021 season. The Pack's 27 ACC Titles in women's cross country are the most by any women's program in the ACC.
In 2021, the men's cross country team placed in the top ten in four out of the five competitions they participated in (adidas XC Challenge, Joe Piane Invite, ACC Championships and NCAA Southeast Regionals).
The 2021 men's cross country season brought achievements including placing second at the Adidas XC Challenge as well as placing fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regionals.
Adidas XC Challenge
At the 2021 adidas XC Challenge, the NC State women's team placed first overall and claimed the top six individual finishers of the race (Katelyn Tuohy, Kelsey Chmiel, Sam Bush, Sarah LaTour, Hannah Steelman, Heather Holt).
The NC State men's team placed second overall in the competition and placed their top two individual finishers in third and fourth (Brett Gardner, JP Flavin).
Joe Piane Invite
During the 2021 Joe Piane Invite, the NC State women's team took home a first-place team finish while the Wolfpack men placed in the top ten. Kelsey Chmiel, Hannah Steelman, Katelyn Tuohy and Sarah LaTour all placed in the top ten women's individual finishers while JP Flavin placed in the top 12 men's individual finishers.
NuttyCombe Invitational
During the 2021 Nuttycombe Invitational, the NC State women's team earned two top-five individual finishes with by Kelsey Chmiel in second and Katelyn Tuohy in fifth.
2021 ACC Championships
The Wolfpack women dominated the ACC Championships, taking home a first place team finish for their sixth straight ACC Championship win. Their team score of 20 points tied the fewest ever by any ACC Championship-winning team.
In addition, the top two individual finishers were NC State's Kelsey Chmiel (first) and Katelyn Tuohy (second), making it the third consecutive year NC State claimed an ACC individual Championship title.
The Wolfpack women also garnered six All-ACC honors during the Championships which tie the most All-ACC honors in program history during a singular season.
2021 Southeast Regionals
During the 2021 Southeast Regionals, NC State earned top-five finishes both on the men's and women's sides. The women's team placed first overall, for its fifth-straight NCAA Southeast Regional Championship title.
The men's squad placed fourth overall in the competition while JP Flavin led the Pack with a sixth-place individual finish that was good to qualify him to the NCAA Championships as an individual.
2021 NCAA Championships
In 2021, the NC State women's cross country team won the NCAA Championship for the program's first NCAA title.
It was also at the 2021 NCAA Championships that the Pack set a single-season record for number of All-Americans with five runners taking home the honors (Kelsey Chmiel, Katelyn Tuohy, Allie Hays, Hannah Steelman, Sam Bush).

Looking ahead for 2022
Looking ahead to the 2022 Cross Country season, the Pack is set to return multiple high-impact performers.
Returning All-Americans
Women: In total, there are three cross country All-Americans returning for the women's 2022 season in Sam Bush, Kelsey Chmiel and Katelyn Tuohy.
Men: There will be one cross country All-American returning to the men's side for the 2022 season in Ian Shanklin.
Returning All-ACC
Women: In total, there are six cross country All-ACC honorees returning for the 2022 season: Heather Holt, Savannah Shaw, Mariah Howlett, Sam Bush, Kelsey Chmiel and Katelyn Tuohy.
Men: There will be two cross country All-ACC honorees returning for the 2022 season, Hannes Burger and Ian Shanklin.
