About the Researcher
I am a fourth year ProCom student. I'm an introvert and a gamer. I'm 30 years old, having taken spent several years working fulltime in the restaurant business before coming back to post-secondary education in fall 2017. Now I'm approaching graduation and I'm excited about the opportunities I'll have as a graduate from this program.
About the Research
The title of my project is 'Subjective euphoria and/or dysphoria relating to the Trans Identity Umbrella'. Dysphoria in this context means distress caused by one’s sex characteristics or gender role in society not matching how the person feels about themselves. This can be a huge quality of life issue, and can contribute to mental health challenges. My research project was designed to find out what makes people feel bad and good so that we can share information that best supports the Trans community and build better Trans friendly spaces.
The Report
I have condensed over eighty pages of survey responses into a brief report that highlights the most important factors affecting feelings of dysphoria and euphoria. I invite you to click the link below to download and view my report.
Words of the Respondents
Some of my dysphoria did help me acknowledge new parts of my identity, such as the revelation that I was non binary in addition to being a trans woman, which lead to euphoria
When people gender me correctly, I get this sense of rightness, of comfort, of being seen. It isn't always dysphoria or euphoria. Sometimes it's that sense of confirmation and recognition.
It can be hard to pin down causes of dysphoria because seemingly random things can trigger it.
