Creating a Mug Using the Slab Method

What you need for the Project

3 Pounds of clay.
Rolling Pin and 1/4 inch sticks
Items to Add for Texture in the Clay
A Paper Template that is 11 inches long and 5 to 6 inches tall
A Pringles Can To Help Keep Your Mug Form
A 45 Degree Tool to Help Cut the Angles or a Knife to Cut the Angle
Create a Unique Handle For Your Mug

Creating a Slab Mug

How To Make a Slab Mug

Make a paper Template of the Mug you want to make.

Flatten out 3 Pounds of Clay with rolling pin and 3/4 sticks
Add texture to your flat slab of clay. to give it some interest
Trace Paper Template on Slab of Clay.
Cut Out Template and Prepare to Wrap around Pringles Can.
Wrap Newspaper loosely around Pringles Can.
Cut 45 degree angles on each end of the slab and wrap around Pringles Can.
Make a handle for your mug. Remember shape starts off as a carrot. Thick at the top thinner towards the bottom.
Remove slab from the form cylinder and than trace out a bottom of the mug on a slab of clay.
Assemble everything together and you have a mug!

Do Not forget to Wedge the clay
