Here is what our Business Intelligence Team was up to last quarter.
What you'll find in this issue:
The Business Intelligence Gateway is the new way to access BI Reports. It uses the analytics layer of SAP, also known as SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), giving us the opportunity to move to a cloud environment.
The BI Gateway has a bunch of benefits
- You can access BI Stories, which have interactive features like the ability to add or remove fields or adjust the structure of the stories.
- You can create your own stories using the model you have access to.
- You can save stories and tailor the look to your preference with customization features like font options, formatting, charts, and visuals.
All Analysis for Excel Financial and HR Reports have been migrated to the BI Gateway. In the coming year, remaining Financial, HR, and Attestation relevant BI reports that are accessed today via the BI Launch Pad and BI Portal reports will be migrated to the new BI Gateway in a phased approach:
- August 2021: Analysis for Excel reports
- Spring 2022: Web Intelligence reports (accessed via BI Launch Pad)
- Summer 2022: BI Portal reports (currently under WBG “User Menu”)
How do I access the BI Gateway?
- Use the direct link: http://bi.weill.cornell.edu
- Click the Business Intelligence Gateway tile in WBG
We held a series of online coaching labs to help users learn the new BI Gateway tool and prepare for the sunset of Analysis for Excel on August 27th. If you need to setup a one-on-one training session, email bi-solutions@med.cornell.edu.
Avaya Skillset Dashboard
The Power BI team worked with the Physician Organization (PO) to publish the Avaya Skillset Dashboard. The Avaya CMS reporting tool has very limited data analysis capabilities, and requires a lot of manual work to generate a report. The Avaya Skillset Dashboard Power BI solution sets up a daily feed of Avaya data - like call volume, call time, and call abandonment rate - and creates visuals and metrics for call center managers. With the new dashboard, call center managers and departmental staff no longer need to manually create reports, and they don't need special data analytics training to understand the numbers. The data's corresponding charts identify trends, problems, and outliers, allowing management to make business decisions using the data
Epic Referral WQ
The Epic Referral WQ Dashboard was designed to monitor the effectiveness of practices working on processing referral orders in a timely fashion and converting them to scheduled appointments. With this dashboard, clinical practice managers and leadership have the ability to track and monitor referrals in the Epic system, and quickly identify areas that need further investigation.
Covid-19 Employee Vaccine Summary
This Summer, the Power BI team collaborated with Human Resources, PO Financial Services and EpicTogether teams to build the COVID-19 Employee Vaccine Summary report for HR. The COVID-19 vaccination is required for Weill Cornell Medicine faculty and staff, and this report helps HR track the employee vaccine progress on an ongoing basis by employee groups (academic/non-academic), number of doses administered, and by department/divisions.
To meet the vaccination requirement, faculty and staff must receive the final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or have an approved exemption in place by September 1, 2021.
Our Power BI Team and PMO launched a new dashboard for ITS in Power BI called Resource Utilization Dashboard.
The Resource Utilization Dashboard allows ITS managers and staff to drill down into data provided by ITS resources when they enter their effort in ServiceNow. It offers insights into project and operational work, as well as availability and capacity for upcoming tasks, making it especially valuable for Managers and Team Leads. The Dashboard pulls data from ServiceNow, and is refreshed once nightly

BI Reporting Updates
PO Fund Statement becomes PO Fund Statement (Accrual)
What changed? The PO Fund Statement Report is now called PO Fund Statement (Accrual), and we corrected the way the report is doing calculations. Previously, the report wasn’t capturing data from the year prior so the ending balance between years didn’t align. Now, the ending balance of the prior year will tie to the beginning balance of the next year. Next up we'll be releasing a new report called PO Fund Statement (Cash).
What's coming up next?
- The Power BI team is collaborating with the Library to create a Balanced Scorecard Dashboard. Balanced Scorecard is the Library's management reporting system, which captures valuable metrics that are reported to stakeholders to justify funding.
