This Week in Newberg Nation April 30, 2023

April Student Athletes of the Month

Congratulations to Scarlett Olivas (Softball), Elly Kjersten (Lacrosse) and Novalee Johnstone (Tennis) on being named the April Student Athletes of the Month! We are so proud of how Bailey and Ray represent Newberg Nation in the athletic arena and in the community! Go Tigers!

No Plant Sale This Year

NHS will not host our annual Plant Sale this year. We look forward to bringing the Plant Sale back next year once the Bond construction is complete and we have our Ag and Horticulture programs back up and running at full capacity!

Trimesters Information

Greetings Newberg Nation Family: At the April 11, 2023 board meeting, the board voted to approve an academic calendar based upon trimesters. As a result, the high school will be shifting to a trimester schedule and away from a semester schedule. In an effort to share information with our students and the community, we are providing families with an FAQ document that we will update as new questions arise. If you have additional questions to add to the FAQs, please feel free to email Jessica Chaffee at chaffeej@newberg.k12.or.us. She will add questions and answers to the FAQ sheet.

You can find the FAQs HERE.

Cinco de Mayo Assembly

On Friday, May 5, we will have an assembly celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Newberg High School has a significant and important Hispanic population, with many of our students hailing from Mexico. And while Cinco de Mayo is considered a minor holliday in Mexico, we have adopted it here in America as a day to celebrate Mexican tradition and culture. Our assembly will include a jalapeno eating contest, dancing, a "grito" contest, and other fun activities. We'll also see a traditional Mexican dance style called "folklorico" which features colorful costumes and a celebration of hard work, with the "workers" incorporating their machetes (don't worry, we use props) as part of the dance.

Cars & Coffee Event

The Newberg High School Business Program is EXCITED to host our first annual CARS & COFFEE event on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 9:00AM-2:00PM. Please email the email listed on the flyer to reserve your spot for $15.00 that comes with a FREE t-shirt! We are excited to highlight some of our student made products as well as FAN FAVORITE car awards! Please reach out if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!

SAFE Oregon Tip Line

Many districts across the State have adopted SAFE Oregon as their primary tip line. This summer, the Newberg School District has made it the primary source for reporting any issues that need the attention of the school. Tips can be sent by phone, text, via the web or through an app. At the high school, students have received this information in their class assemblies and school-wide safety videos. Encourage your student to download the app and/or put the number into their phone. If you would like more information regarding the tip line, please visit SAFEOregon.com.
