Johnny wrote this song because he felt that he was cut down by God who allowed Satan to be used on him by teaching him a lesson in suffering and bringing him down to his knees. God is gonna cut us down by allowing Satan on us to give us some unpleasant memories in the hope to turn us to The Good Lord.

The significance- As of January 2016 the song has sold 672,000 copies and Relief Pitcher of the Cleveland Indians Andrew Miller, uses this song during his entrance. Although his song was recorded in 2003, the song didn't get released until July 4, 2006. A music video was also made for this song 3 years after Cash's death that features many famous people. The music video won the 2008 Grammy Award for best Short Form Music Video.
