A busy week in school once again, with Year 6 leading the way and showing the rest of school how to be the very best you can be. They have shown true determination, maturity and pride in all that they have done this week and we are all very proud of all they have achieved.
School life
This week Reception visited Monk Park Farm to find out more about animal life cycles and baby animals. We had a great day out and lots of fun! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to help. Some of our tadpoles have now become froglets which is very exciting, we will be finding them a more suitable home now they can jump!
The children have been very busy in nursery over the last few weeks. They have investigated the life cycle of a butterfly, started growing their own fruit and vegetables and have been learning about the climate and layers in the rainforest. This week, the children carried out an experiment to show how rain falls from clouds in the rainforest. They have been so enthusiastic; they have even asked if they can measure rainfall in the nursery outdoor area. They really are budding rainforest explorers.
Year 3 are getting stuck into their Junior Forrester Award and have been exploring the woodland areas in school. On Thursday afternoon, we worked extremely hard cleaning up the pond area and making some cosy homes for minibeasts. We were even joined by some of the creatures living in the area, much to Miss O'Callaghan's delight!

Another big well done for everything Year 6 have done this week. Also a big thank you to FOGH who organised the Hoodies for Year 6. They will now be able to wear these in school for the rest of the academic year.

Queen's Jubilee
We are planning a play afternoon to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee on Friday 10th June. It will be on the afternoon, where you can bring a picnic, play (see the amazing OPAL play in action) and celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

You may have seen that we are having some further groundworks on the school field. Thompsons Timberworks are bringing our ideas to life in the next phase of development. We currently have a climbing wall well underway and the wooden boat is being brought to life. There are a couple of other items on the way soon as well! We can't wait to see the children enjoying them at break and lunch times.

lets localise
We have a few campaigns on Let's Localise at the minute and would be great if you could support them or pass them on to others to help support.
One thing we are really keen on doing is Grow@School - this will enable us to have some vertical growing towers in school where there children will be able to learn about sustainable food growing in an ever changing world, use the produce in school and eventually see if the children can become entrepreneurs and sell any additional produce. We are looking for sponsorship of £2,500 for the Let's Localise Grow@school campaign.
The aim is to guide students to create an indoor school farm that enables growing food in a sustainable and environment-friendly manner 24x7. This will also allow them to gain an understanding of important global topics such as climate action, eliminating hunger, access to clean water & sanitation, and of course, local food consumption and production.
If you work for a large company - or know any one that does, that would like to sponsor our first two Grow Towers, please do let me know so that we can get in contact with them. We also trying to raise additional funds for further grow towers, you can support that here:https://www.letslocalise.co.uk/pap-campaign-details?pledgeCampaignId=11090
We're also looking to develop a Maker Space room in school to expand out computing curriculum and ensure children leave Galley Hill with a computer literacy enabling to be ready for the next stage of their education and ready for the workplace of the future.
This equipment will form part of the offer to expand the opportunities for children to explore and be creative with coding. You can also support our campaign for that here: https://www.letslocalise.co.uk/pap-campaign-details?pledgeCampaignId=11080
Finally, we have a little online raffle to help raise funds to continue to develop our school grounds and brighten it up in time for the jubilee celebrations. Prizes are chocolates with 3 winners. You can support and buy your tickets here:https://www.letslocalise.co.uk/entertainment-details-view?eventId=12615
Thank you for all your support as always.
