Relationships, Sex and Health Education (R.S.H.E) at Moorlands Primary School

Intent

To build a RSHE curriculum which is accessible to all. Where personal, social, health (and sexual health) and economic education enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society.

That the RSHE curriculum will incorporate all aspects of RSE, SMSC and will reflect the British Values through the Moorlands Values.

That RSHE will not only be a stand-alone lesson but that it will show links with other curricular areas.

Children will be provided with opportunities for them learn about rights and responsibilities and to understand that they belong to a diverse society. They will be encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

Children will understand how to look after their mental health and develop a wide range of strategies that they could use if needed.

Implementation

Teachers will follow the curriculum and teach to the best of their ability using a range of methods and resources.

The curriculum will incorporate core aspects of RSE and will show a progression of learning and understanding throughout the school.

The curriculum will be tailored to ensure that all aspects of RSE are taught effectively and sensitively to the needs of our local community. That the British Values will also be reflected through the effective teaching of RSHE/RSE/Well Being and the embedding of the Moorlands Values throughout school.

The RSHE document will show clear links to other areas of the curriculum. That RSHE is evident though displays around school and events such as Learner of the week, Behaving the Moorland’s Way, Moorlands Marvels, School council, and links with the wider community i.e. charity fundraising by each year group, apaches, anti-bullying week, visit to school from NSPCC, Barnardo’s, Flat Stan, assemblies, ‘Thinking Thursdays’ and many more.

Through teaching the children about zones of regulation and teaching them a wide range of strategies to help them self transition between zones.
