Desert Ecosystems Ms. Shannon Moylan

How do animals ADAPT in the desert??

The desert is a very hot place. it is not easy to live there, but animals have special adaptations that help them survive.

This is a fennec fox. She has big ears to keep her cool in the desert.
This is a desert tortoise. His shell keeps him cool and protects him from desert predators.
These are camels. They can close their nostrils so that the sand cant get in them.
This is a jackrabbit. Her feet are covered with fur so that they don't burn on the hot, desert sand.
I am a cactus. I am a plant that likes to grow in dry areas. Instead of having leaves like most plants, I have a long spine. My spine helps me to conserve water, which helps me grow.
The features in plants and animals that help them to survive in their ecosystems are called adaptations.
