Individual Blog 4 How social media affects the NBA

Everyone knows how popular and mainstream Sports are, especially in the NBA. Over the last 75 years, the NBA went from a simple sport on Tv to doing Commercials for Food, Beverages, Sneakers, Fashion, Clothing, and even Charities, they're branded on NBA Athletes to support and promote their brands, businesses, or companies. Everything transforms over the decades, including it's representation and news. The NBA is a 24/7 news cycle reporting constant rumors, trades, controversies, fines, rule changes, drafts, signings, politics, schedules and other variables impacting the organization. When it comes to receiving and bringing news to the NBA's events, it's transformed from hourly/daily news on newspapers and television to instantaneously on the Internet. Social Media has established ways to receive news in more convenient ways than one. Take these old relics of communication as an example: A newspaper image and news segment of the Trade of NBA Hall of Famer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Back in the 20th century, Newspapers and Television were primary sources to write and report news similar to this in the NBA or other sports. These two examples include interviews, stock footage, and images of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Los Angeles Lakers. While TV and Newspapers are still effective and bring more discussion, profit, and help create more interest and entertainment in the Sport, social media platforms have increased that when it comes to popularity, entertainment, and current events. Digital and Social Media such as Twitter and Instagram helps bring the NBA news right at your fingertips. For better or worse, it helps notify consumers, readers, customers, and NBA fans as soon as possible. For example, this tweet is from Adrian Wojnarowski, a famous ESPN reporter:

(Woj's tweet brings the attention of hundreds of thousands to millions of viewers/readers/fans)(He's one of the top employees at ESPN)(In addition, he has his own ongoing podcast called "The Woj Pod". He has guests stemming from NBA GM's, players, reporters, writers, and other special guests)

Wojnarowski has been giving NBA fans instant news digitally for over 10 years. He was one of the "pioneers" to start this craze and brought other digital reporters like Shams Charania and others. Social Media has become a new landscape, not just for Sports, but for any news revolving around the world as well. It brings a new age for people to discover and consume news. Television, Newspapers, and Websites, now get most of their sources from Social Media and reporters like Wojnarowski. Websites like Bleacher Report, ESPN, The Ringer, and other mainstream news organizations have reporters adapt to receiving and giving news digitally. It can be very difficult to adjust or keep track of since it's happening every event or day Sports organizations function. This is the perfect opportunity and movement that future reporters and people can use to start or boost their careers. Even people who are just starting a blog....
