NY Fashion Week: Can we Translate These Looks in WKHS? Amelia Murphy

As New York fashion week approaches, you get glimpses from the media and see how the looks and themes are coming along. These million-dollar outfits range from many different artistic views, just like the outfits you wear to school. But what if you could take inspiration from some of these crazy looks and incorporate them into your everyday attire. Fashion enthusiasts Sophia Fuller, senior, and Henry Fronczak, sophomore, inform you how to make yourself look straight out of fashion week.

WKHS students have an expansion of unique styles, which is not far from what New York fashion week is, and what makes it such an interesting event. New York fashion wear all put into a runway show always intrigues people for different reasons. "There's a lot of layering, playing with different textures and colors and I just think that's very fun," Fuller states.

What is it about New York Fashion Week that captures people's attention, the clothes, the scenes, the designers? All these draw in people from around the world to tune in to what's happening, like Fuller, as she says it is one of her favorite parts of the fashion world. "You're taking some of the most fashion-forward people and putting them all together, and to a regular person it can look very overwhelming and like 'how would I wear that in my everyday life,' but just taking small, little elements from New York Fashion Week."

Fuller has dug into fashion concepts, especially this year, and finding her style through the industry, "is a cool experience. Finding your style within the fashion week means you can look at something and look into it more if you are interested in it, and you can tell if you are like 'I don't like that and figuring out what looks you like."

Even though the attraction to the styles broadcasted at New York Fashion week is huge, the clothing and accessories are largely unaffordable and unattainable. Yet, these unique looks can be created by simply expanding where you shop and find inspiration. "I believe thrifting is a great option to find unique pieces that many name brand stores might not have. Also, to find items that you can layer underneath, layering is a huge trend right now, and it can elevate the whole look. Going with a bit brighter color schemes and the addition of accessories, playing around with them, can change your entire look. Jewelry, for example, can make your looks seem much more put together, and higher-end than they are."

Henry Fronczak, a fashion foward WKHS student, has traveled to New York and has seen the streetwear himself. He say he was "intrigued" by "the liveliness and diversity of New York fashion. Its a place for your unique fashion style to stand out without judgement. It is based around being bold and expressing yourself, not far from what students at our school do. Weither its playing with colors, layering, or showing off unique peieces, its fashion sense is one of the best ways to express your creativity with clothes you wear."

Fronczak also states why he thinks New York creates such an intense fashion-advancing community. "Since New York is the center of many fashions and art universities, fashion shoes inspiration can be seen daily on the streets." With this, he also acknowledges how hard it is to wear such bold pieces, especially around a community that differs extremely from New York.

"Once you diminish the fear of possibly standing out from what others are wearing, and unlock the ability to express yourself with clothing, you truly have embraced what New York fashion week and the culture is all about," Fronczak elaborates on. From layering, accessorizing, to thinking outside of the box and overcoming the standards, New York fashion can make an impact on everyone's style. The smallest changes in details of your attire could uplift your entire style to whatever you desire it to become.
