Lone Mountain Eagle Eye March 27, 2023

Lone Mountain Families,

It is another busy week here at Lone Mountain. This week our fifth grade students take the AZSci test which is the state test for Science. This test also marks the beginning of state testing season so please read below on ways to help support your student with these tests. We will have headphones available for testing but many students prefer to use their own. Your child may bring their headphones to use for testing but please note that they must be wired- no bluetooth earbuds will be supported with our Chromebooks.

This week we will be hosting our STEAM night from 5:30-7:00 PM here at Lone Mountain. This is a free event for our families that will showcase all components of STEAM- science, technology, engineering, art, and math. There will be interactive events and displays for the whole family to enjoy. Hope to see you there!

I wish you all a wonderful week. If I may help you or your child in any way please do not hesitate to reach out.

Respectfully, Emily Hill

"SOAR" EXPECTATIONS AT LONE MOUNTAIN

This year we continue with our positive behavior interventions and "SOAR" expectations for students to follow in the classroom and around campus. The acronym SOAR stands for Safety, Ownership for your actions/words, Attitude, and Respect. These are character traits that we talk about daily within the classrooms and around campus. When these specific traits are shown staff members can give each student a SOAR card that they label with their name and then drop into a raffle for a monthly prize drawing.

ARIZONA ACADEMIC STATE ASSESSMENT (AASA) AT LONE MOUNTAIN

Late March and April are the times of the year when our students participate in the Arizona state tests. We truly take great pride in these assessments as this is our opportunity to see what the students have learned and what we need to modify in our practices to ensure mastery. Finalized testing dates are below, but please check your classroom/grade level newsletters for specific testing dates for your child's classroom.

  • 3/27- 3/29 5th grade AZ Science test- 3 part test
  • 4/3-4/6- ASSA Writing for grades 3-6
  • 4/10-4/25 ASSA Reading for grades 3-6, ASSA ORF for 3rd grade

As we prepare for testing season here are some helpful tips that you can assist us with at home:

  • Ensure consistent attendance at school- on time, every day
  • Help find a quiet place for homework, studying, etc...
  • Maintain communication with your child's teachers
  • Sleep- Make sure that your child gets plenty of sleep
  • Pack wired headphones for student use during testing
  • Breakfast- even though students can purchase breakfast here at school, please embed time in your morning routine for this

Finally, I recommend that you look at the practice questions and test items for AASA and AzSci on the testing platform using this link to access the practice tests for your child's grade. Please click on the line listed mic check and sample test. Then choose ASSA TestNAv Sample Tests or AZ Sci TestNav Sample Tests and the correct grade level. There is no sign in for the sample tests.

THANK YOU FROM COACH CARRICK

Thank you Eagle Parents and PTO!

When I started this year at LMES, the PE supply room was lacking, to say the least. As of today, our students have access to quality equipment for all the major sports, playground games, fitness & agility, and recreational activities. This turnaround is directly attributed to you, the parents of LMES, and our fabulous PTO!

A little over a month ago, I put out an Amazon Wishlist to the LMES community. Within a week over half the items on the list had been purchased by our amazing parents. The PTO stepped in and purchased the remaining items, and now our kids will experience games and activities that just a few months ago we didn’t have the equipment to play.

I cannot thank you all enough for your support of our students. I feel so incredibly lucky to be a part of this amazing community!

LONE MOUNTAIN FIELD DAY- 5/4/23

We are excited to announce the return of field day to LMES! On Thursday, May 4th, 2023 ALL LMES students will participate in eight (8) exciting activities that will engage the students’ athletic prowess, their hand-eye coordination, their competitive & cooperative spirits, and most importantly their innate desire to have fun.

The purpose of this message is to solicit volunteers to help oversee each of the activities. Ultimately, sixteen (16) volunteers that are available to work from 8:30 am - 3:00 p.m. would be ideal. If you are willing to volunteer, please email jcarrick@ccusd93.net : include your name and the times you are available to help.

The 6th grade team is assisting in vetting potential peer-mentors to help design and supervise the activities for the younger students on this day. Sixth graders that are interested, will complete a job application and must be in good academic and behavioral standing. The students that are selected will participate in field day with their peers and then come back in the afternoon to help guide the younger students through the activities.

LEARNING LAST WEEK AT LONE MOUNTAIN

From the classroom to the playground, learning at Lone Mountain is always fun! Last week our kindergartners learned all about how plants grow as they weeded and planted within our garden here at school. Third graders also practiced their perimeter and area skills by drawing people with a formula they had to create.
