Spring is the BEST Time for a New Type of Fun Run!
The sun is out, the weather is starting to warm up, and kids are ready to MOVE! Spring presents a very energetic season for fitness-based fundraisers: Fun Runs, Walk-Athons, Jog-Athons, and more.
- Parents are more willing to be involved now that the holidays are over.
- Communities are looking toward more local events as summer approaches and may be more open to donating to your fundraiser through sponsorship opportunities.
- Teachers and admin are starting to think about the tail-end of the school year and how they can wrap up on a positive note - a successful, school-wide fundraiser is a great way to do that!
6 Spring Fun Run Themes for Your School
1. Glow-in-the-Dark Fun Run
As the weather starts to warm up, consider having an “after dark” Fun Run complete with glow-in-the-dark paint for DIY t-shirts to wear the night of the event, plenty of glow sticks to go around, and neon decorations to line your track.
Host your Glow Run at dusk and have additional lighting for when it gets darker. Alternatively, host your run in the gymnasium during the day with the lights turned off.

2. Dr. Seuss Dash
Who says a Dr. Seuss themed fundraiser has to be a Read-Athon? Combine reading and running with this Fun Run theme! March is a great time to host this one since Dr. Seuss’s birthday is on March 2nd. Track reading minutes during the donation period, then celebrate with a Fun Run and outdoor party at the conclusion of your fundraiser.
3. Bubble Fun Run
Nothing says Spring like running outside through a wall of bubbles! Set up bubble machines along your Fun Run track and use all kinds of bubble prizes (gum, wands, Wubble Bubble, giant bubble kits, etc.)! You can also do mini Bubble Challenges like: Who can blow the biggest gum bubble? Who can pop the last bubble? And, whose bubble lasts the longest or floats the highest? Giveaway small prizes during these challenges on event day!
4. Superhero Fun Run
Get out the capes and comic books! This is a great Fun Run theme anytime of the year, but it’s especially fun to celebrate spring with an outdoor, superhero run. Superhero Spirit Day, Principal dressed as Batman, comic book decorations, and local “heroes” as special guests are all great ways to make your Superhero Fun Run a success.
5. Color Run
Celebrate the most colorful season with a colorful Fun Run! Colors Runs are extremely popular this time of year. All you need are some white t-shirts, volunteers to toss the colored powder and the willingness to be silly with your next fundraiser. We have tons of Color Run tips available in our blog:
6. Shamrockin' Fun Run
Get the luck o’ the Irish on your side and find your pot of gold! St. Patrick’s Day provides plenty of ways to add a fun theme to your Fun Run through Dress in Green Spirit Days, “Fill the Pot with Gold Coins” as a way to track classroom fundraising progress, and Slime the Principal as an incentive!
