1996
29 July was an important day in the school’s history. It was the day of the official signing of the building contract to construct the new campus on Linden Drive, formerly the site of National Junior College. On the same day, the ground-breaking ceremony took place.
1998
The new school campus at Linden Drive would be three to four times larger than the old King's Road campus, comprising nine blocks in total, with wide pavements linking the blocks. It would take up 3.64 hectares, 1.24 hectares larger than the existing one. At the same time, the girls' boarding school would be built opposite the school. Nanyang Girls' High School would be the first all girls secondary school to have a boarding school.
1999
The move to the new school campus took place with a symbolic Big Walk to the new school on 6 June 1999.
The official opening ceremony of the school was held on 26 August 2000.
Architectural Highlights
The main campus designed by our late first lady Mdm Ling Siew May continues to impress visitors to this day with the use of symmetry, columns, arches, high ceilings, open spaces and numerous small architectural details.
Common Spaces
The Ai Li Hall (right), a truly multi-use facility. The only indoor venue capable of holding the entire school population, the hall has been the venue for many concerts, graduation ceremonies, weekly assemblies and sporting events as well as being the major exam venue.
The Siew May Auditorium, capable of seating almost 500, makes an ideal setting for level assemblies, Parent-Teacher-Meeting sessions and has showcased many theatrical performances over the years.
Learning Spaces
The Yu Zhi Library (right) is generously spread over three floors. The library is not only about books. The large open area on the lower level of the library gives the library a light, airy feel.
The upper-most floor of the library, originally the Media Resource Viewing Room and Media Resource Office of the library, was renovated at the end of 2006 into Special Rooms with a central area ideal for project work.
Living Spaces
Broad corridors in front of the classrooms, reminiscent of 5 foot walkways in front of shophouses, enable students to walk between venues keeping out of the sun or rain.
Roof spaces are not put to waste. Many batches of students have grown vegtables in the hydroponics garden or visited the spice garden.
