Enhancing English Language Learning Skills: Public Speech at Universidad Bicentenaria de Aragua English Conversation Club, Venezuela. March, 2016 By Professor Maria Barreto

  • At Universidad Bicentenaria de Aragua in Venezuela, teachers and students in the English Department have joined forces to promote the use of English in all disciplines. The English Department under Professor Maria Barreto's leadership and the supervision of the Head of the English Department, Professor Arteaga created an English Conversation Club where students had the opportunity to develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills using a variety of strategies. Among the activities students had to do was speech presentations of their careers. Public Speech presentations were open to all students at the university during the open fair event. This was a great opportunity for students to showcase their language skills and promote bilingualism in all areas at the university.

  • The Public Speech took place in the System Engineering Building where the English Department has its offices. It was held as an English Fair. The event hosted 5 different speeches and a Game station. The Game station consisted of practicing Listening and Writing skills using Songs. For this station students worked with Lyricstraining.com. An excellent tool for developing listening and writing skills.
  • The topics of this Public Speech were: "Strategies to improve English Language Learning" Hosted by Luis Padilla, "Violence in Movies" presented by Oscar Moreno, "Why it is important to read in English" hosted by Anthony Rivas, "Contribution of Technology to Sports" introduced by Albert Daniel, and " Why learning English to advance your career" hosted by Simon Soza.
  • All participants did a great job. The goal of the event was to strengthen communication skills and build confidence in participants while crafting an effective English communicator. During the event presenters and attendees exchange ideas on the topics presented and gave feedback about future events. Congratulations on the good work!
